I borrowed the boroscope from work to have a shufti at the fuel filter in the tank

Good news is that it's an all metal one so no burst risk hanging over me

My question is what mileage do these filters need changing?

Cheers

Tris

It depends. If you get contaminated fuel, or are in a country where the fuel isn't so clean more often than in the US where fuel is pretty clean. In the US probably close to 50 K miles before it is needed to be changed. However if you hear the fuel pump straining, replace the filter.

Cheers John
Given that I'd guess it started with a plastic one (05 bike) so has been changed and it's only done about 25k miles I think I'll leave sleeping dogs lie

I replaced mine at 25k with a plastic one. I didn't know about burst risk. I have found that the pickup strainer easily gets messy and needs cleaning. My engine used to cut out due to fuel starvation. Down to the nylon mesh pickup strainer. I replaced the filter at the same time as it was accessible. The pickup mesh catches any water that has condensed in the tank. To get to it involves emptying and removing the underneath access Panel. I open my tank and leave it dry to ventilate each winter now. My previous tank caught ethanol blisters which is reduced by venting occasionally, or so I have been told. I'm in the UK where we have an ethanol component in the fuel.
