Using the holidays to finish build of my "belt" cam 4Valve Guzzi.

Have finally settled down in one place again and bought a garage for the Griso with house attached :D
Near Bundaberg in sunny or torrential rain Bargara.

Hi William,
It's a good ride over the hill to Okoroire, & I agree you can sometimes be outnumbered by the HD brigade, but it's an interesting place to met like minded souls who range from far & wide.
Are you riding to Puke for classic bike racing next weekend?

Yup, taking my "new" 992 Sport for its first ride ( subject to WOF).
Plan on going up Sat but may stay in Auckland & go Sunday as well.
Park with the Italian Owners Club crowd & you'll see plenty of Guzzi's
What would normally be the best day to go? I have a client who races a Ducati Single so was keen to have a looksie around the pits.

Both days are worth going to William.
A good thing with Puke is that you can wander the pits & chat with the guys.
Saturday is practise & a bit more relaxed.
Will be there Kevin, parked with the IMOC crowd.

Hi folks, bit of advice and local knowledge required. I'm/we are retiring soon and the missus is pestering me to visit New Zealand (she has relatives in Titirangi).
Couple of questions, When would be the best time to visit, not sure of any itinerary as yet whether it's going to be touring (car/motorhome) or just staying with relatives as a Base and venturing out on a daily basis.
I've had a quick Google and found a bike rental company in Auckland that rents guzzis, but willing to try others.
Any info re accommodation, camper van/car/bike hire greatly appreciated. Would be considering at least a 3 or 4 week trip if not longer.

My two cents. Best time is about now late January early to mid February, less chance of rain and generally warm. The place tends to shut down between Christmas and New Year for a couple of weeks and prior to that everyone is crazy getting ready for holidays. Southland has better and less crowded roads but there are some good ones in the North. 3 to 4 weeks you could start at the top and work your way down. The Bert Munro weekend in Dunedin would be a good one to catch. I'm sure there are plenty of others but depends on the time of year.

I reckon the best time to visit is Feb onwards, Nov/Dec can be a bit unsettled plus the schools are on holidays then. If you want a bike hire i think Kiwi Dave still rents Moto Guzzis , check out Guzzi Gander. If you do leave it to Feb you can visit the Burt Munroe meeting in Invercargill.

My 1 cents worth.
If you travel all the way here, you really do need to cruise round the South Island.( bit like Switzerland)
North Island is probably more like the UK/ Scotland (but with more beaches).
South Island needs traveling down one side & up the other - it can be done in a couple of weeks.
I'm sure your relatives can fill you in depending on your preferences.

Thanks to all for the info so far. Guzzi ganders california vintage would be the way to go for me I think. Possibly a week on a bike south island and same again north island then maybe a bit of camper vanning. Hmmm decisions to be made.

Worth a watch, mostly accurate.
