850-T Brat Custom Build

Maybe before ya paint up, crazy glue some plastic shims on the stops and check the ride out. Should be able to crack off the shims after you decide.

A little bit involved, time consuming etc, but cheap, and it would let you test out the new radius W/O permanently changing things.

I hadda do something like this on my new race bike to get max swing inside limiting body walls. Gunna need to do it again after I modify the clip-ons.

Lose the T3 tank and try something else. Six gallons is probably too much riding time for what you are going for and the stock tank probably would look bulky on a brat/café build. The LMIII tank is narrower at the front and may fit or just slide the whole assembly back an inch. There really isn't much to the T3 gas tank mount: a couple rubber mounts up front, a big rubber support and a rubber band in the back.
 
I got the monoshock swingarm tacked welded up for fitment this morning. I will remove it to fully weld the connections on the hoop. Then reinstall to final weld to the stock swingarm.

Thanks to my new friend Patrick, I now have a rear drive unit from a convert and a t3 rear disc setup. I took the ring and pinion from my rear drive and installed them into the convert case. This will give a sleeker look than the larger rear drive case that came on my bike. I am waiting on a ducati 900ss rear brake caliper, master cylinder and reservoir to come in the mail before I can finish that mockup.

In the meantime I removed the ignition coils, rectifier, regulator and breather box. I ordered up some dynatek coils, electronic ignition, motogadget m-unit blue and electronic regulator/rectifier.

I also got the wheel hoops powdercoated too.

Figured out I can use the bracket/holes already on front of frame for the rectifier/regulator which is great. I also got a breather filter and cap for the ports on top of engine.

Moving to the rear brake and rearsets, I picked up a set of rearsets to mock up with. I welded in a couple mounts for the ducati master cylinder, whipped up a linkage and all is good there.

Working on the shift linkage, I decided to reuse the cross bar since it has the arm to connect to shift linkage already. I will be welding up an arm that will then connect to the rearset pedal via a linkage I'll fab too.

The biggest hurdle has been the ducati rear caliper and bracket. I think i have it pretty well figured out. What I have to do is lathe the big diameter of the axle down to match the smaller diameter JUST enough for the axle nut to have enough thread. Right now the Ducati bracket is preventing axle from going through completely.

So I decided to have the rear caliper mount on bottom side, giving it more clearance. I'll have to fab up a bracket stay and cut the old one off, but that's no big deal. I am running into an issue tho...

When I put the axle on and tighten down the axle nut, the wheel hub doesnt seem to sit flat against the final drive and the wheel is very hard to turn. Am I missing something? I know it's an odd setup with the ducati caliper and bracket, but not sure what's going on. Could a bearing in the hub be causing this?

Right now from left side to right side it goes...
Swingarm - washer - ducati bracket - 1/4" gap that I made a spacer for - bearing spacer - bearing - tube spacer through hub - lipped seal - bearing - final drive - washer - securing nut

Any ideas?

Looking good. Check the rear suspension travel vs seat loop. I made mine too close and tyre hit it on a big compression dip. Put a ding in the end of tail unit that I just cut off... put only a tiny cut in tyre...
