rear flashers with braking light?

I like the looks of those products from Signal Dynamics. Just locate the turn signal and brake wires and splice the unit in.

So fess up - what year, what color, what farkles already on the bike, what do you have planned and when are you doing the suspension upgrade?

Applying either brake lever produced 12+ volts on the line but when the lever was released, there was still 6.5 volts on the line. This was enough to keep the relay engaged. I have yet to figure out where this voltage is coming from. The solution to my problem was installing a 12 ohm 50 watt resistor on the brake line. This looks like a conventional tail light lamp to the elecrical system and dissipates any residual voltage when the lever is released and drops the relay out. In turn this gives a true zero voltage to the cruise control dis-engage line so the unit can be engaged. Anything connected to the brake circuit is going to have to contend with residual voltage or at least have enough of a load to switch properly.

I encountered a similar issue on my '15 Norge when trying to wire up a brake light flasher to a 3rd brake light. The standby voltage (ign on/engine off) in the brake wire was between 5 and 7 volts. If I held down the brake when turning the ignition on, the 3rd brake light would flash, but releasing the brake would not reset the flasher - any subsequent braking would activate the 3rd brake light but would not flash it.

Seb, I'm running into the same problem adding a 3rd brake light. Tapping into the brake light wire, I get full brightness when the brake is applied, but releasing the brake leaves the light on at half brightness instead of turning off. Since I intend to add a flash module in-line with the brake light, I'm afraid the residual voltage would keep the flash triggered. I also tried adding a relay but had your experience that the 6V "off" condition would sometimes trigger the relay and sometimes not.

So when you added the resistor to the brake line, did you do it in parallel as in the picture attached, or in series?

I'm also planning to add a decelerometer to flash a brake light as well, but I assume I can run the power for it directly from the battery since I won't need the existing brake signal.

Electricity was never my strong suit, now CAN bus makes everything more complicated. Sigh.
