I removed my exhaust system today.
The O2 sensors are very black and sooty - sort of even, velvety black.

Should I clean them before refitting them, and if so how/with what?

Two asides here:
1. The exhaust valves are both a lovely light, greyish, fawny colour - running perfectly.
2. That purple polish stuff, which someone here suggested, does make discoloured SS exhaust pipes shiny silver again, but it sure did take some gruntin' and groanin'! Each header pipe took an hour+.

Many thanks

Dins, you are running my map, correct? If so, the 02-sensors should be turned off. You can send me your usr file to verify.

And if they're turned off, you can remove them from the pipes and wiring loom. They won't go black if they're sitting in your bottom drawer.

You will need bungs in the pipes to replace the vacant holes. Any good automotive shop should be able to supply these.

Yep, sure do! I'll send it to you after scanning the forum for new posts :).

Are you able to raise the engine rev limiter? Any time I'm having fun gettin' amongst it in the hilly country it keeps bangin' its head against the rev limiter. ALL previous bikes I've owned (and there have been many) begin to run out of breath as they approach their red line, so gear changes are easy to predict. This thing just continues to haul like a steam engine until a rude noise reminds me it won't go any further. In 1st and 2nd the revs rise quicker than the tacho's ability to keep up, besides, under those conditions (fangin') there's no time to keep your eyes on the tacho. If you could push the rev limiter out to, say, 8,000 rpm it would be more gooder - assuming you reckon the engine would cope adequately.

You've created this problem with your fixes. Your pipes and fueling fix have transformed this thing completely . The flat torque curve doesn't appear to taper off - all the way to 7,200 rpm.

3riffic!! That was my next question after reading Todd's response, above.

Done! For anyone wanting to do the same the O2 sensor thread is M18 x 1.5mm. Very hard to find in ss because of the fine thread. I bought a pair of hex head steel bolts, cut them off to length and glued them in with ultr-hi temp Loctite. I also put aluminium crush washers under the bolt heads. I use Loctite 2422 for exhaust stuff. It's medium strength, but it's their highest temp thread locker - 340°C.

Now I am confused. I am running the GT-Rx map on my V7 III, and didn't know I could remove the O2 sensors. Does the map turn the sensors off or did I miss some step?

Do you have Todd's pipes, oem pipes or other 3rd party pipes? I have his complete 2>2 GP Meg system. I'm sure that the map would be different for different exhaust hardware. Check with Todd if yours is different.

Same thing noted above, send me your usr file to verify, but short answer is yes they are.
