Hi guys, I have returned to Moto Guzzi after selling my Breva V1100 five years ago, I have bought a 2014 California touring with 10K miles on the clock, is there anything I should look out for as my knowledge of these bikes is zero? I must say it appears very well built and rides really good. Thanks

She should have had a 600 and a 6000 mile service and the 12000 is next. Also your rear tire should be getting pretty worn by now. Everything you need to know is pretty much in this forum. The only thing I found on mine was the gearbox drain bolt loose and the top case attachment points. I would be a good idea to check everything for tightness including the exhaust heat shields and take a look at the H pipe for cracks. I'm closing in on 24000 miles with no major issues so you have a lot of riding ahead.

I have a 2014 California ("used" new to me at the end of 2014). The first year of ownership I took my first cross country ride on the bike. The H-pipe broke in Indiana. Got it welded at Harper's Moto Guzzi in Missouri. The oil started overflowing in Utah. Got new oil and filter change in Sandy, Utah. The cause for this was a mystery and never happened again.

I caused a self-inflicted problem trying to set a key code in the dash. My advice: get your dealer to do this for you. That way they will be responsible for the $400 charge and $100 shipping to the Netherlands to get it fixed if they screw it up.

Other than these things it has proven to be reliable and a lot of fun to ride. This was my first European bike (after riding nothing but Japanese bikes) and I was a bit nervous. It is different, but in a good way.

Welcome to the land of Guzzi, I love my 2014 touring. It is the most refined bike I have ever owned and I have been riding for 50 years. For me it scrubs the floor boards little too soon in the mountains and has a bit of wobble in high speed sweepers. My 1984 Cali 11 will out handle it in the mountains. BUT when ridden sanely its outstanding and very fast.
I took the lean nubs and the plastic edges off the boards and put rear shocks at stiffest and the mountain curves are more fun. A little fork modding and the 90 mph sweepers will improve.
Keep an eye on fasteners- heat shields and windshield most notably. Some of the controls are a little weird but become intuitive fairly quickly.
The more I ride it, the more I love it.
