V7 II ENGINE FAILURES & CLUTCH ADJUST NOTICE!

Yes they sure can, covered in the PDF on the first post here.

The dealer was reluctant to check it before delivery, but eventually said they "would check into it". Just before delivery they said "The bike checks out OK, everything seems fine.", but wouldn't elaborate on what exactly they checked.

When I took delivery the sales guy mumbled stuff about Moto Guzzi won't let them investigate/perform tech bulletins for no reason.

So I'm left riding around with my fingers crossed. But I do love this bike... ride it every day just for fun! :)

Thread started by our friend Steve below... if you're having issues with your V7 II regarding your clutch working correctly, which (can lead/) led to your motor being replaced due to missing crank thrust bearings from the factory.
PDFs info attached.
Please post yours by replying to this thread if you have had this issue. Those affected listed below:

2014 V7 ZGULWUA01EM200223 Engine # 018044 This is a customers bike with symptoms as described here.

Local dealer (Vespa Brooklyn) has already made a few attempts at fixing this by:
Replacing the clutch assembly and pushrod assembly (762 miles) under warranty
Adjust clutch (1479 miles)
"TRANSMISSION REAR COVER PRE MATURE WORN. R&R REAR TRANSMISION COVER" (1672 miles) under warranty
Replacing adjusting nut (3258 miles)
Replacing clutch cable (3531 miles)

Mileage is now 4186

Hi Todd. I've got a '16 V7ii Stone that just crapped out as well due to thrust bearing issues. Unfortunately, it's no longer under warranty. However, wouldn't this be a manufacture defect/consumer protection issue? At any rate, Has anyone here contacted Piaggio directly to request an engine replacement? If so, who did you deal with and what did you say to get them o acquiesce? I am an attorney, and am considering writing a letter to them on my letterhead, but I don't want to come off as being too threatening from the start. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Any good dealer should go to bat for you under manufacturer’s defect. 2016 is squarely in the range noted in this thread. There are other earlier models that suffered this as well, and those have had the engines covered under warranty outside of labor costs in one instance.

Just wondering what the mileage is, and if it's mostly cruising or lots of shifting?

This is crank bearing related, please read the first post of this thread completely.

Thanks Todd. Mileage is a bit over 7k (mostly highway cruising, probably why it hasn't manifested until now). I'm going to try and get the dealer to put in writing the issue with the thrust bearing so I can take it up with Piaggio HQ in NY. You're right, VIN for this bike is right in the middle of the ones listed above. I hope the folks at Piaggio are willing to work with me here instead of me having to file a consumer law claim. I'll keep y'all posted. I miss my bike.

I would ask your dealer to put in a warranty claim, they can do this even though bike is out of warranty. They will send a Factory Tech Rep to evaluate the bike. This is how it's done. I have yet to see Piaggio deal w/customer directly. Good Luck

I know, and I did :)

I was trying to figure out if this problem is likely to show up sooner with mostly city driving/lots of shifting because the clutch spends less time pushing against the crank and holding it in place? I dunno, I’m no mechanic.

Welcome/thanks... keep us posted here. Mind posting your VIN and engine # for me to add to the first post of this thread?

OK, fair enough. Shifting has nothing to do with the error on assembly of your engine. Have it tested by a dealer if you can per the PDF files on the first post if you think there is an issue. What year is your V7? Most often, improper adjustment is what smokes the bearing and washers. All covered in other threads.

It’s a 2016 with a slightly higher serial number than the last one reported with a problem. Just coming up on the first service and no problems so far. Thanks, I’ll make sure to keep the clutch adjusted as recommended here.

Suddenly the other day, my clutch became super hard to operate. I also noticed that in first gear, with the clutch engaged, the bike would want to roll forward without pressure on the brake. I took it to my local shop, and the said they adjusted the clutch cable, and remapped the engine. They also told me that I need to replace the actuator. Is this a common thing? The bike has 10400 miles on it.

My 2012 V7Racer clutch has just slipping at 20K. My mechanic who is a longtime Guzzi specialist, said he's had them go as early as 7K and others last 100k +. Frustrating and expensive.

A clutch can wear out at any point, depending on how it is set up and used. Aside from user error, other things that can affect clutches and contribute to them wearing out prematurely are how the clutch mechanism and clutch cable are set up. Also, a rear main seal leak or a mechanical issue like the one that is being discussed here can cause it.
But a clutch wearing out in 20,000 miles is not normal. That is not right.

Well covered in this thread, please skim from the top.

Vin: ZGULWUB01GM200093
2016 V7 ll Stone ABS
Dealership wants to charge me $800 to fix the actuator.
$70 in parts, labor is fairly extensive (we do it for ~$350 at my shop). Just make sure they test for the crank bearing issue on the first post of this thread. Hate to see you pay to replace the clutch pushrod assy then have it turn out it's an engine issue.
