1100 several things on dash not working.

The main ground is behind the starter cover. Remove the ground connection and clean the cable and mounting point with scotchbrite or similar and re-connect. As to other grounds you will need to track them down using the schematic for the bike. It may be a good idea to clean all connectors with contact cleaner.

It was my intention to do just that. I am wondering where there may be other earths specific to the instrument cluster situated somewhere other than the main earth.

I would also like to know where the select switch wiring can be traced to, the wiring diagram is unclear.

I was hoping l would not have to rip the bike to bits looking.

Which circuit drawing are you looking at? The one in the manual is almost impossible to read.

The mode button is part of the LH handlebar switches, item #9 in the schematic.

All the earth wires should be a blue colour.

Yep that's the drawing I'm looking at. I agree the earths are blue but where does it terminate? It goes into the loom sleeve, does it go straight to the main earth or somewhere else.

The mode button is also sleeved, I was hoping to not cut into it. Do you know the wire colours?

Update:- success!

Turns out my bikes wiring bears little comparison to the drawing ( thanks anyway Dave).

I grew up on British bikes so went old school.

Tracked the loom to right hand side connector just under the tank. The connector showed signs of bad corrosion. Bugger to get at as well.

Applied needle file, wd40 and some copper slip and heh presto everything came back at once.

There was a lot more diagnostics than mentioned above but you get the jist.

Lots of wild goose chasing with a couple of red ( green on my bike ) herring to boot.

Already been for a run.

A long time since Ive posted
After mister Roper "Rollerized" my Griso We detected a very noisey big end bearing and this dash symptom as discribed. Im in the throes of repairing a shorting grip heater on the left side and will check out the wiring for the dash mode functions while I'm in the area.
As usual this is an excellent resource

So just to be sure, the problem was not the dash but corroded contacts in a connector under the tank?

How did you get to the connector? I guess that I need to take the tank off? Did you take photos by any chance?
