Hi all,

Long story short, I had to buy a new engine for my V7i.

The only engine available was the V7iii and I was told that would fit and work no problem.

The bike has been running fine but the battery is not charging correctly.

I have isolated the problem to the regulator/rectifier. It is rectifying but not putting out the correct voltage. So I need a new one. This was tested when removed from the bike so no interfering factors.

Do I go for a V7iii reg/rect? Could the old one (v7i reg/rect) have blown by being used with the V7iii engine?

Dont want to buy the wrong one then have it break again so I cant return it...

To be honest the V7iii reg/rect is cheaper online so I think this is a no brainer.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can also put the MOSFET version online that I use at my shop, that is plug and play for most 2013-2016 V7s if there is interest? If it s direct bolt on, plug matched replacement. Post below if interested.

Bear in mind that the V7(I) uses a 350W dry alternator whereas the later V7's use a 270W wet alternator. Although the wiring diagrams show identical hook-ups, the alternators have different part numbers and perhaps they differ internally. Earlier forum posts also indicate that they have different bolt hole spacings, so if you use a later alternator you may have to adapt it to the V(I) frame. Good luck.

Hi Sib, thanks for the reply. The fact the wattage is different concerns me  If I replace the rect/reg with the V7iii will the problem move into the loom and beyond because of a lower wattage input?! This is such a head ache lol. Thanks in advance
