Hey everyone just got back from a ride down ortega highway when my dash would randomly turn off and on with no reason at all. Sometime it would show that it was redlining in 6th when I was just crusing along. Anyone else experience this before?

Yes... my tach started acting erratic within two weeks of delivery. Sometimes it would be thousands of rpm too high, sometimes thousands too low, sometimes it was correct. Then, it broke completely free of the housing, and took over six months for a warranty replacement to arrive. My engine still stumbles in first under full throttle starting at 5900 rpm. The dealer says it's normal, but I don't think it is. I've done steel fuel filter (twice), new plugs and caps, checked and rechecked the valves, checked the airbox for excessive blowby... stumble under full throttle is still there. It almost seems as if even the new tach is always lagging.

At 7200 miles, my speedometer broke completely loose in an identical manner to the tach. The odometer on the new speedometer, which took two weeks to arrive (I'm very happy with that amount of time) read 0 miles, which irritates me. In 2009, with a similar problem, KTM asked how many miles I would have when their replacement dash for my 08 Superduke R would arrive. I told them 1400. I had the odometer to the exact mileage at the time of replacement. This incorrect odometer issue alone wouldn't bother me, but combined with the other dash related issues, it's another annoying deficiency.

I'm really happy with my V7 III Special overall, but unfortunately, the poor instrument cluster construction, inaccurate tachometer and speedometer readings (with OE rear tire size), and vibrating needles are the worst aspects of this motorcycle. Hopefully yours will be fine after the tach is replaced.

Mine just simply shuts off and turns right back on. The headlight stays on, nothing shuts off. I’m hoping it’s a one time event. I’m going out again today and I’ll see if it still does it.

Also mine doesn’t have the stumbling issue since Todd reflashed the ecu for me.
