Stelvio Swingarm Service

Morning All
I'm just about to do this job on my B1100 and am getting tooling an the like in place but I have a couple of questions

a) I don't have roof trusses in the garage that I'd be prepared to trust to hang the back of the bike from.
SO... (with the bike on the side stand) can I remove the 2 side plates/peg hangers and replace the bolts securing the center stand thus allowing me subsequently to use the center stand to remove everything else?

b)
....Apart from having to make up a few service tools to remove bearing cups from frame and to install new it is very easy to work on......

F500 - any chance of some pics of the tooling you made? I'm under no illusion that mine will NOT need removing so it would be very helpful

Stand fast - I've just found the pics on sheet 2 of this thread :wasntme::wasntme:

c) When it comes to reassembling, does the bevel drive have to be off to refit the cardan shaft?
If you don't it seems to me that it'll flop to the bottom of the swing arm and you wont be able to pick up on the splines

Cheers

Tris, If you have a center stand you can do the service. It is best to remove the CARC as it is heavy and makes handling the swing arm difficult. The drive shaft and splines won't be an issue.

Cheers John

I'd rather not do it sat on the floor but unless my creative juices kick in soon and let me work out how to secure the bike not using the pegs to my EazyRizer jack that's where I'll be

Still better than collapsed bearings !

This is great. I am a long time Guzzi fan, I've had had several of them, my 2016 Stelvio being my first CARC bike. This service is on my list of things to do.

This may be a dumb question, but can I remove the CARC without draining it? Are there seals between the CARC and the swingarm/driveshaft? Not a huge deal to drain it, but trying to reduce the number of things to do at one time, if possible.

Yes you can. Just keep the vent high.

When you remove the CARC there are two small screws that hold hold a metal ring in place against the rubber boot . Just make sure that is elevated otherwise you will get a weep of oil seeping out because the swinging arm isn't bolted up against it.

You have to remove the 'CARC' Unit from the Swing-Arm, otherwise you'll never get the Drive-Shaft onto the Splines again, no matter which end you have it fitted to first.
