.Norge fuel gauge

The gauge only moves down to about 3/4 full when actual level goes into reserve. Basically I want the gauge to give me an actual level indication. Any suggestions?

With ignition "off", does it go all the way to empty, and if so, does it stop exactly on empty or above/below?
When you turn the ignition "on", does it sweep correctly from empty to full and settle at the fuel level mark (even though it may not be accurate)?

Robert

I think that rules out an electrical or dash related issue. My guess is pull the gauge from the tank and see if there is anything sticking, bent, or pierced (ie float).

If you want to avoid that in the short term, try draining the tank, let the bike sit a couple of days. If something is filling with fuel that should not be, then the fuel will drain out and the gauge should read correctly. If this works, add the fuel a little at the time to see what effect it has on the reading.

If all that works well, fill it up and ride. Time will tell if the error reoccurs. IF it does reoccur, you know it's the gauge in the tank, then pull it out and fix it.

I hope this helps , keep us posted on your progress.

My 2012 Norge had exactly the same problem. Yours is a 2014, and is it not still on warranty? My dealer replaced the fuel sender/fuel pump assy. at the first service as warranty work. ~1100 miles. I believe this is a known issue on the Norge. Fuel sender was faulty.

i had this issue with my 2012 Norge, discovered that the sensor in the tank was incorrectly assembled. easy fix, now reads very accurately

Hi John, difficult to explain but i will try. the sensor gauge in the tank has a sweeping arm that rides up and down a 'railway track' of little connectors, as the fuel drops the float lowers to the next connector point and sends the level to your dashboard.

i found that the fitting holding the float arm was not fixed properly to the body and not making connection properly, instead it was going so far and then sticking - giving a false reading of more than half full in my case.

it was a simple matter of removing the float arm and then repositioning the body in place before refitting the float.

i must admit i have the pump out three times trying to solve the issue before I spotted it, sorry i didnt take any photos

Same issue on my 2012 NTX, always reading empty. Pulled the fuel pump assy, float not punctured; cleaned the tracks with a tiny bit of metal polish and an ear bud, then cleaned the residue polish off with contact switch cleaner. Checked that all the little wires make contact and looked for obvious assembly issues, didn't spot anything. Movement of the float arm is easy and smooth.

Filled up this morning, still showed empty, then after about 30 seconds it showed a reading. Will see if the solution is lasting, I'm suspicious because it should've read immediately after I filled the tank.

Incorrect. There is a delay in the reading and subsequent display at the dash. Otherwise, the indicator would be all over the place while riding.

Congrats and Good Luck!
