Tires for my Griso

The one thing left that really bothers me about the Griso, after having fixed the fueling with a PC5, is how the bike handles on the original, stock tires. My Griso is a low use garage queen that only gets out for special stuff.

If I don't pump in plenty of air, the bike feels sluggish and heavy in turns and the steering gets really heavy, like I have to fight it back to a straight line after a corner. I have to fill the tires each morning to get a light and easy front end for the day.

Current & original are Dunlop Sportmax. Maybe I'm blaming them for some other thing. How are folks upgrading tires for their Griso for a light and easy front end?

If you have to fill the tires each morning you have a leak. If you have spokes that's likely the culprit. My tires hold air for months on end.

Not to say the tires are flat each day, just that a few pounds of pressure lost makes a big difference in feel and handling. Anything under full rated pressure feels "heavy".

By "full pressure" do you mean the pressures listed in the manual and on the sticker on the frame? Or do you mean the full pressure stamped on the tire?
Either way, the pressure should not be dropping and require refilling every day. That would be a leak. I can easily go a month without having to add air.
How far do your fork tubes stick up past the top triple clamp?

I don't think this was the case, so they were likely replaced once. Regardless, I'm a huge Dunlop fan. Try a new set of Q3+ (or Roadsmart 3 if you aren't a superfast street rider). As Michael commented on above, lower the forks in the triples. There's a whole separate thread here on it.
Tire pressures are important on a 550 lb machine, for sure, as is suspension set up for you weight. Heavier riders will lengthen the wheelbase and rake (by compressing the suspension), so combatting that is as important as tires/pressures.

Great point, Todd. I am only around 200 lbs and I had to crank the preload pretty much all the way up to get the rear sag close to right. Otherwise when I sat on it the front end raked out as the rear compressed noticeably more than the front.
My Griso steers light and easy. It currently has Michelin Pilot Roads on it. They work great. But most quality tires tends to work great nowadays. Mine came with Metzlers stock, but it is an '07 (first Griso in the state).
