Hey All, I just did a tune up on my guzzi an changed the oil an gearbox oil while its on the stand.

Can someone tell me if this is a normal color for the gearbox oil? or was it water contaminated? Its like strawberry chocolate milk :( It was changed (supposedly) at the first break in maintenance. But not since then.

Also....there were some small amount of metal filings on the gearbox oil drain plug. I dont like to see this, but thinking it may be normal.

drain plug normal, looks like moisture I'd replace with dino and do it again after next rain ride to see what it looks like.

Thanks....made me feel better. I just filed with LiquiMoly 85-90 Mineral Oil.

Ok....I'm assuming that the moisture just accumulate from atmosphere via the gearbox breather vent and I hadn't take the bike for a good run to vent it off. I should know better from my years of dry sump oil tanks sitting through a cold season.

Regards, Joe

Strawberry milkshake gear oil probably is Redline Shockproof heavy. Excellent stuff. Overkill IMO.

LiquiMoly 85w90 you used is exactly what the specification calls for so you can't go wrong.

I swear by the Redline Shockproof Heavy. Except on my V7-III Stone, and (soon) my V85 where I use Redline Shockproof Light (Blue). Considering how often you have (want) to change it, it's hardly a financial burden.

If it's truly a strawberry milkshake color and drained VERY slowly, than it's likely Redline Heavy Shockproof. I've been using it for a very long time, and I highly recommend it. On my screen it doesn't look like it is the color I'm used to seeing, even on a used drain. Might be water contaminated, if it drained quickly. Drain plug looks pretty normal.

It was a quick drain...so i'm gonna say it was moisture contamination. Like I said earlier...it had been sitting all winter and I didn't get it nice and hot before fluid change as I had the bike down for other maintenance.

off topic a bit, but do you use it for final drive unit and the transmission? I've seen it recommended so elsewhere
