Hi new to the forum, but not Guzzis, I have just acquired a 2007 Norge with 34,000 kms, I don't know what oils are in the bike, so I am going to dump them and start again, Motor 10w60 is a given, but as the motor is dry clutch there is no need to use motorcycle oil? I was thinking a 10w60 oil that meets bmw m series or Aston Martin specs? liquid moly, helix ultra, castrol supercar, motul 8100, quartz racing, motrex.
Transmission and final drive 85/90 weight hypoid gear oil, that is almost a single grade lubricant, my shifting starts off nice and smooth (for a Guzzi) and seems to get a bit clunkier as the oil thins out, any thoughts on a larger viscosity spread? (85/140?) or adding moly to the mix, or any full synthetic gear oils, again sorry for the oil questions but it is important. my last Guzzi was a V11 le mans Tenni, and before that a mk11 le mans, so the V11 was the same tranny as the norge but I remember it shifted with a bit less of a "clunk" than this one, again I have no idea what is in the gearbox or final drive other than they are both at the correct levels.

Hi Chris, congrats on the '07 Norge. Hope you'll add your info to the Registry in this section. We have pages of oil discussions here on this Forum, per the paragraph above, please try a search and read. Oil threads are brutal with opinions and are mostly deleted here.

I did this research fairly recently, reading the available threads here and elsewhere, and decided to try the Redline Heavy ShockProof, also sold as VTwin Transmission Oil. You can get it at Lordco locally.

I haven't put it in quite yet, but most of the smart folks say good things about it. Good luck with the research.

I use Eni 10W60 4T in my Stelvio, which I got off the internet, and Castrol 4T Motorcycle oil in my other bikes.

I firmly believe in Redline Heavy Shockproof in the gearboxes and tinal-drive in all my dry clutch, shaft drive bikes.

Never had a single issue.

Brand is unimportant really, it’s a matter of personal preference and marketing susceptibility.

The golden rule is:

“Stick with the recommended API SERVICE CLASSIFICATION and you cannot go wrong!”

Enjoy!

I use Redline Heavy Shockproof in the transmission and final drive of my '15 Norge. I can't say that it works better or worse than any other product because I haven't used anything else to compare it against. One thing I've noticed though is that the final drive oil comes out slow and thick, whereas the transmission oil comes out with an almost water-like consistency. Same oil, same amount of miles. I always drain immediately after a ride, so all fluids are fully warmed up. I assume this difference in viscosity is normal - can anyone explain why there is such a difference?

Sure. Way way way more gears and teeth in the gearbox to break down the oil much faster. Also check the temperature of the gearbox versus the final drive. The gearbox gets hotter.

I put Valvoline 75/145 synthetic and gear changes are amazing now! No clunk into 1st either, 08 Norge
