Noisy Norge left side

out on the bike yesterday after loading a 'X' map. got about 30 miles then engine dies completely.

pulled over and started to do check for anything obvious, nothing. bike wouldn't start. let it sit and called recovery. whilst waiting I tried again and got it to kick into life, grudgingly and very rough. kept it on the throttle and decided to chance it back home rather than wait 2 hours for a truck.

bike felt like it was running rough on one cylinder, wouldn't go above 50mph so took my time, very rough when I had to slow down for lights etc.

got it back and listening to it on drive the left side was really noisy. came back to it this morning, replaced new map with old, started it but very noisy, engine off and left it for a couple of hours, checked valves - all ok. plug on left was dry so clearly now fuel getting to it

it is really noisy clacking on left - any suggestions. i have had Guzzi's for too long and know some are noise than others but the Norge has always been quiet on tickover

tried to load upon a video to share the noise but couldn't work that out - try this

I’m just a forum member here with ZERO authority but I can tell you emphatically.

Bastard Maps and GuzziDiag are strictly forbidden subjects here in these forums. You won’t get any help with it here.

They have and continue to be total douchebags towards Todd Eagan, the owner of all of this here.

Sorry, but you will have to get help from those guys.

For what it is worth, you are not the first person who’s motorcycle has been screwed up by those guys. I hear this same story frequently.

Good Luck.

Simply looking for any issue that may cause rough running on one pot. Getring a spark but dont think it is getting fuel on left side The bike will rev up to5000 but no further

It is an 8v 2012 rollered 45000 miles

You did something to cause it to run poorly... Undo what you did to start, see if that’s the cause.

The thief of maps is one of the biggest charlatans on the planet. The name I’ve been called many times by them... and I’ve built everything I do with science and dyno result proof.

i pulled the left injector and turned the engine - no fuel ejected, tried the right - plenty of fuel ejected - looks like the injector then. i see it listed as part iwp 162 but all I have seen on web have 4 holes - the ones fitted have six. does the number of holes make a difference ?

Isolate and test.

So, move the injectors to the opposite sides. If the problem FOLLOWS the injector, then you know that you have a bad or clogged injector.

If the problem STAYS on the left side, then you have a wiring short, a damaged ECU, or a really screwed up fuel map.

Isolate.

Do a forum search for “Russ Collins”. He is the best fuel injection guy in the United States, a veritable living FI God.

He can get you sorted out first time and offers the very best cleaning and rebuilding service for injectors for I think, $28.

First isolate your issue then call Russ.

BTW: I was in your city October 2018. I fell in love with Edinburg. Wonderful city and wonderful people!

Had the greatest steak of my life at Steak Restaurant Picardy Place. Smoked marrow butter! So good in fact, I took a picture of it!

When I did a search for Russ Collins, the motorcycle legend is no longer with us. Scott may be referring to RC engineering which is excellent at reconditioning injectors. I have used their services and they can't be beat. https://www.rcfuelinjection.com/ That said, you may want to check with diesel shops in your country. Since diesel engines are very common in Europe they probably have a good local source for cleaning.

I did not know he had died.

So sad. Also, at 4:30 in the morning, I blanked out that you were in Scotland.

Tired at that time. So sorry!

i'll swap over etc. you look like a man that enjoys a steak

I look like a man who likes a steak, LOL, but I was nearly killed when hit by a 10’ aluminum ladder out the back of a truck at 70mph!

Broke every bone in my chest and my back. Didn’t walk for the better part of a year. You go to seed real fast busted up that bad.

Weight piled on. Been slowly losing it little by little.

Thanks for noticing!

unfortunately the Steak has closed, but i am sure we can find another for you if you ever come back (p.s. it is terrible weather today)

Scandalous!

What made the place, was where they got the beef from. That's was the super duper part of the whole thing. It truly was the best beef I've ever had anywhere.

Keep us posted with your efforts to solve you problem and let us know if we can help you further!

Jim, I live in the "wilds" of western Canada. Just up the street in this town of 85K citizens I found a Diesel Specialist. A member of a world wide network called ADS (Association of Diesel Specialists).
He took one look at my injectors, and said "Common type, will fit in my cleaning system". My Breva had sat for a couple of years before my time. Ultrasonic cleaning and spray pattern test did wonders for my questionable fueling back when stock.
Price was fair enough. He has since done my Griso and Buell, just to make sure.
I never needed new injectors, but any local expert may be able to help, without mail order from overseas. After all this stuff comes out of Europe....

.. until i took it out for a test run - going like a pig, same as before, wont go above 5k, running rough. check it and is showing faults P0201 and P0202 - both - njectors - not likely ? or wiring - assuming both injectors are now ok - what do I check in wiring - the wiring looks like it disappears under the air box ?

Since the engine runs, that tells me the wiring is OK as the injectors are opening. You replaced one injector, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is good from new. I would first get the injectors cleaned. A diesel shop may know where that can be done in Scotland. If it isn't the injectors, it leads me to believe there is an issue with the ECU. ECUs tend to be pretty reliable, but anything can fail.

Sounds to me that your experience with the 'X' maps is not back to the original factory settings. I know you think you did that, but I have my serious doubts. I think it is bollocksed up bad in the ECU.

not the ECU

checked right side for chain sprocket aligning at TDC - my straw in the spark plug hole rising up and down is moving freely, chain taught and sprocket aligns at 6 o'clock at TDC

checked left - looks like the chain has slipped at TDC - will do that tomorrow
