2019 V7 III oil level check, results

At around 200 miles on the clock (bought the V7 III new on 7/31/2020). I decided to check the engine oil, gearbox oil, and transmission oil level.

Transmission/Final Drive: I checked this when the bike was cold (sit for two weeks), there was no oil coming out of the level hole and there was oil when I put my finger in the hole. Tighten the level plug to 20 ft-lb.

Gearbox oil: Also checked when the bike was cold. I checked it when the bike is clod by opening the filler plug and put a ~ 6" chop stick down the hole. I wiggled the chop stick to let it go down as deep as possible and found oil at about 4.6" on the stick.
A couple of things to note are that the filler plug was really tight. I was not able to open it with a 10" socket wrench. Ended up using a 16" breaker bar. Also, after opening the plug, there was air released from the hole...interesting. Tighten the plug to 20 ft-lb.

Rode the bike for about an hour and no leak on the final drive level plug.

Engine oil: checked when the bike was hot, rode it for about an hour and let it sit for about 10 min. With the bike leveled (wood blocks on the side stand). With the dip stick screwed in, the oil level was at about the full mark. With dip stick not screwed in, oil level was at about 1/4" above the min mark. I then checked the air box and there was no sign of oil, not even oil film anywhere.
 
throw that torque wrench away. use two fingers and a thumb hold on 3/8 or even a 1/4" drive ratchet before you strip something. I wouldn't drain some of the engine oil out but that's too much. never more than 1/2 way between the marks or it will spit into the airbox. all covered a million times here.

Yes, I have read most of them and the reason why my posting of the results here. I also tend to over tighten bolts, so the torque wrench I used ;)
Owner's manual said to check the Engine oil level with the dip stick screwed in, but the Service Station Manual said don't screw in.
Todd's suggestion is to screwed in the dip stick and keep the level at the min. mark. Although I agree with you that my level (stock) could be too high, but if it is, shouldn't there oil in the air box already?

I almost fell victim of incorrect information in the service manual once. Ducati's official service manual said the oil drain plug torque is something like 25 ft-lb. My thinking was that should be around 15 ft-lb, but decided to follow the "official" number. Luckily, I was using an aftermarket brass plug, so the head almost sheared off and did not damage the thread. Also, the part number for the drain plug washer
on the parts list is incorrect and they did not bother to fix that even years after :think:
 
... Maybe, depends on speed (RPM) and the attitude of the bike that day, I think the brand of oil (don't ask) outside temps, etc.

In my case, I have been riding around areas with altitude no more than 1,000 feet and ambient temperature between 70 F ~ 90 F.
RPM-wise, no more than the 4,500 preset for break-in. I hit that no more than 5 times so far and don't expect to hit that often.
