I am having timing and ignition probs with my G5. I've changed the point plate from digital back to dual points. Also replaced the distributor weight springs.
Adjusted and set static timing for both point sets.
Set valve gaps.
Checked carb adjustments.
Back fires and doesn't appear to be advancing correctly. Doesn't advance on either cylinder much at all.
I am wondering if I've managed to install the weights incorrectly.

Anyone have a picture of the proper orientation of properly installed weights for a dual point distributor?

Thanks all,

Alex

Took a look inside my V7 Sport distributor (same type).
Conclusion: if you can see the protrusions on the weights, they are installed correct side up. Cannot install the weights backwards if you can see the "lifts" or "Shoulders." V7 Sport Dist Weights Distributor weights

My G5 problem is elsewhere.

If my memory serves me , one spring allows the weight to move a bit before the tab on the weight completely
engages the spring . Also I'm assuming you can twist the advance cam to the end of it's movement (not seized) .
You didn't use the tdc mark to set static timing did you ? Peter

heheh no on the TDC. I use the 2nd line (1st after TDC) for static. Then I usually do the timing light exercise on both cyls.
Yeah the pieces all move freely. I will re-re-re-check the movements (good idea).
Goin' down to ElMo (Mojave Desert) for final LSR racing this weekend. (35 degrees F probably). After I get back and thawed out, I'll attack the G5 again.

Thanks for the input, stay warm,

Alex
