V7 Fuel Filter Not Replaceable?

Well after spending 2 hours of my time and a further 2 hours of the time of two of my mechanically minded friends I have concluded that the fuel filter is not replaceable. No matter what we do the unit cannot be removed from the tank, if we apply any more force things are most certainly going to break.

I have a filter waiting to be installed,and your not doing anything to encourage me !
I have had jobs where I have had to hit Reverse it’s @#$&%$* Anoying !!!

I hear ya Deadeye. I will be trying again in the spring. In the meantime I am only using ethanol free fuel and 3 summers/15,000 KM later and the original filter is still solid and white like it should be.
 
It's not that difficult, just takes some patience and a good feel for putting impossible shapes through too-small holes... :)

Seriously, I have not changed it yet on my 2017 V7III Racer, but I suspect that I will this coming year. I'll drain the tank and do it just the way I've seen it done at the shop. I don't expect much difficulty, just the usual silliness.

My 2011 V7 Racer and 2011 Norge are both still on their first fuel filters. Reading these posts makes me wonder if I have been incredibly lucky or perhaps something changes after 2011. Am I minutes away from a failure or should I sleep at night? David

Depends on your ethanol content. The more, the faster they seem to fail. Ride it until it fails and see. ;)
 
If in the US you will get ethanol! Can't be avoided unless you find a station that carries the non and then it can be from 86-90 octane and as much as double the normal gas price. Unless you are a gambler or plan to sell it soon just change the filter for a metal one.

Are the nozzles all identical ( other than Hydrogen and compressed gas - Liquified fuels)
I’ve been to the UK, France, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany , Bermuda , OZ and didn’t notice it was that fubar .
No wonder they need to Standardize the Names !!!
 
Another V7 with its plastic fuel filter where it belongs - in the GARBAGE!
This is from my 2014 model, bulging and soft. Good to get it replaced.

How much fiddling was there to get the assembly out..

How awkward was disconnecting the pressurized fuel line from the unit ?
I was going to remove the tank when I was doing the SAS but just couldn’t get it disconnected.
( but I didn’t try very hard ;) )
Maybe with some else holding up the tank, it might be easier ?

To remove the fuel pump assembly, watch the GTM video on youtube. It tells you which way to turn and when. My assembly came out the exact way they showed and went back in with no problem. That video definitely saved me a lot of time and frustration.

On mine. I ran my tank as low as I could, propped the back up with a block of wood, disconnected the fuel line (a little fiddly but squeezing it in and moving it around worked it loose), disconnected the wire connecter. Once done, the tank will slide back and come off pretty easily.


When I did the SAS I just lifted up the tank on a block of wood. It would be much, much easier with the tank removed.

Don't try and disconnect the pressurised line without releasing the pressure first. Disconnect the electrical connector block to the fuel pump, run the engine until it splutters and dies, then disconnect the fuel connector.
