Cali 1400 Custom Windshield

I found a tall bracket kit but I'm being told you can't mount it on the Eldorado unless you have the sport light bar installed?? Is that true? This is like some sadistic puzzle torture.

No light bar on mine. there is a bracket that goes under the bottom fork yoke, maybe that is what they mean.

I have the Guzzi short screen on my Audace and it doesn't need a light bar.

basically the quietest, least buffeting was with no windsheild at all (i.e. naked) as all the air flowed around me, but I couldn't hold on to the bike much abover 100kph and certainly not for long. The taller the screen, the more turbulance is created leading to noise and buffeting which in turn gives rise to helmet shake and blurred vision. I just found that the small screen gave the best compromise for me.

Everyone has their own opinions, but very few people who comment have tried more than one screen and so much depends on your height and helmet.

If you do not have the light bar, then you need a bracket that mounts to the lower portion of the triple tree, and then the windshield hardware mounts to that.
 
Hi, for what it's worth, I just saw a new 1400 Cal Touring windscreen with the tall bracket kit on eBay from a San Diego MG dealer for $800. I asked if it would fit the 2020 Eldorado, and he said "Hello, It will fit his bike, but his bike does not have the lower spot light bracket that the windshield mounts to, so he would need to fab that. or order the spot light bar. "

I saw that one. Seems like I would have to buy the sport light package to get it to fit which wasn't my plan but I'm seeing since joining the Piaggio club its more of what the bike wants than what I do.

This is the bracket that goes under the bottom triple tree. It probably wouldn't be to hard to fabricate something similar.

On the subject of buffeting I've been playing around with my screen for a while and this works well for me. No buffeting at all and I can ride with my modular helmet open all day up to and above legal speeds. On a days ride I may get 1 or 2 small bugs on my sunglasses but that is about it. I am just on 6ft, 184cms and I ended up raising the screen 45mm and pushed it forward at the bottom by 25mm. I can still look over the screen rather than through it. The bigger gap at the bottom lets in more air which may be part of the solution. Pushing it forward 25mm means the winglets are up against the indicators, it's not a problem but I might change the indicators for some smaller LED ones. I was using a laminar lip before but that is no longer required.

I can see what material you used for making those two vertical strips or L-channel.

What did you use for the last picture showing mid-brackets pushed out by inch or more? Looks shiny/chrome like as well.

Did you have to do any adjustments to the bottom most bracket that sits under triple tree? I see on my bike it is sitting exactly flush under the triple tree so if you lean the windshielf assembly forward then it won't be flush anymore or the wholes won't align where 3 Alen screws go in.

It is all 25mm x 3mm flat aluminum and I just gave it a polish. I used the strips originally with holes at about 10mm intervals so I could try it in different positions and ended up with it just a bit below eye line as I didn't want to have to look through it. I then just made up 4 small strips at that measurement. I did the same with the for the mid brackets, about 25mm is as far as you can push it forward because the winglets hit the indicators. I found it is better to push them up quite hard against the indicators otherwise they vibrate if they are just lightly touching. I added a couple of rubber grommets/washers between the screen bracket and bottom bracket and they allow a little flex when pushing it forward, but even without the rubber the gap is negligible, just leave the screws loose until everything else is in position and then tighten them down last. You will need 4 countersunk bolts to fix the strips to the screen frame so that the screen sits flush.
