I was hit by another rider while turning right and my rear kicked out and down I went. He was going about 45 and did not see my signal, I was going about 30 since I was familiar with the turn. Scraped up the right side of my Touring, ruined my (new!) Arai helmet and had sore ribs for a while but not a scratch on me.

I decided to turn the bike into a "custom" since the right side case and top case were pretty banged up. The top by the fall the side case by the collision, top needs a little fill work but all three would have to be painted to match. The windshield was toast but I've been working on the damaged parts and I think they can be filed/buffed and painted. I buffed out the head covers but put the black ones on anyway. Only have to do the crash bars front and rear.

Still, I think I'll leave it as a custom. Any ideas on what else to do, particularly about a windscreen? The bike has only 30K on it and I did the service just before the crash (including the alternator belt) so that added insult to injury.

BTW the crash protection was very effective is preserving the main mechanical parts of the bike.

I have a pair of the remote reservoir shocks off a custom with very low miles if your interested.

I don't understand why the gentleman's insurance didn't cover your total losses and restoration of your motorcycle to original condition.
Insurance varies but lets say I made alternate touring arrangements and there is nothing wrong with having a cool cruiser.

Sorry, I didn’t understand why if someone hit you then why their insurance wouldn’t pay to make you whole.

I get it now. Change by choice. Ok.

I’m easy confused by stuff like this.

You still have a great motorcycle. Enjoy!
