Scott, I noticed you were riding a Centauro in that photo of yours which I had never seen one up close. Today I stopped by at this guy's MG shop to see if he had a wheel for sale, anyhow, he had a really cool, Griso like bike sitting in front of his shop that I really liked. Turns out, it was a 2003 Centauro! That is one slick bike! Not sure why they don't make it anymore, or did the Griso replaced it?

Cannot be a 2003 V-10 Centauro because they were only made 1996-2000.

The Griso is pale in comparison to a Centauro. The Centauro was made for the 75th anniversary of Moto Guzzi and was wildly expensive and had first rate equipment all over it.

Are you talking about Mark Etheridge at Moto Guzzi Classics? He’s been around over 30 years there. I used to go to him way back when he was in Signal Hill.

He’s a character that’s for sure!

BTW: My avatar is a Centauro engine.

Like most all Guzzi models, no one bought them. Both the Daytona RS & Centauro were very limited in production numbers, and on the expensive side for their day. I believe a total of 36 Daytonas made it to the U.S. in ‘97-98.
Unless proven wrong here, the only production model years for these bikes was ‘97-98. ‘99 was a bit of a bastard year and only the California Bassa was titled as a ‘99 model. There were a few Cal EVs that might have also, but I think I’ve only ever seen one. Typically they were either a carry over ‘98 or an early 2000 model year. My 2000 Jackal was made in September of 1999. Titled as a 2000 model. They also released the V11 Sport a short time later. A few of those may have also been built in late ‘99.

You must be referring to Moto Guzzi Classics. Scott, he’s still in the same place in Signal Hill, or just around the corner since the late 90s.

Yes the Griso kind of replaced them. Below is a photo of the original Griso prototype using the same Daytona/Centauro 992cc engine, circa 2003.

I originally wrote 1997-1998 for the Centauro as that was the real import dates, but as you said, they used leftovers and rebadged them as a later model year. I remember that.

Oh no Todd, this was when he was WAY WAY WAY back in Signal Hill, in an industrial complex with lots of little bays and rolling doors. You had to drive way off the beaten path and through the old oil well pumps to get to it. Circa 1987-ish.
