Bella Brevas - 246,000 Smiles

Long-term Moto Guzzi ownership can be rewarding and fun.

Flamborough is a popular tourist destination and the weather was fantastic. You would be amazed how many members of the public came up to us to talk about the Guzzis. The Honda and BMW riders who were also there didn't receive the same level of attention:giggle:...

Chris: Just came in from a 60 mile jaunt on my '04 Breva 750 and found your post about your and your wife's marvelous Brevas. I realize that your bikes are superbly cared for (I've been following your comments re your Brevas for some time) but there's no doubt that Guzzi has built a very grand longevity into these bikes. How many miles did your wife's 750 go before it needed a clutch? Was that done when you did some top-end work around 128K miles?

Many more years and miles for both of you!

Ralph

Ralph, thanks for those kind words.

We replaced the original clutch on Jane's 750 when the engine and gearbox were out of the frame @ 120,251 miles. Major parts replaced at that mileage: piston rings, valves and guides, clutch, timing chain and tensioner. These were all original parts. The cylinder bores still had their honing marks.

And since that work was done:
131,071 miles, new 'exchange' starter motor fitted.
134,148 miles, original regulator rectifier replaced.

Update on our 2005 Breva 1100: 108,000 mile service carried out between 8th & 15th September.

Our Breva 1100 has had no major issues since the 102,000-mile (6,000-mile) service.

Prior to this 108,000-mile (12,000-mile) service the instrument display had been showing an intermittent system fault. While the petrol tank and airbox assembly were removed I inspected all the electrical connectors for signs of corrosion. Nothing untoward was found but all the connectors were cleaned and retreated. Due to the machines age and mileage as a precaution I replaced the original control relays. Since doing this the instrument display hasn’t shown any system faults.

Except for some signs of corrosion on the front frame down tubes and greying engine paint, the machines overall finish is still holding up very well. Although its yearly mileage has somewhat diminished since buying our V85TT in July 2019 we’ll keep our Breva 1100. Owned from new it is part of the family and still puts a smile on my face every time I ride it.
