Hi Guzzi owners . I have just joined GuzziTech and have recently purchased a 2019 V9 Roamer . The first Guzzi I have ever had anything to do with . I have owned a variety of bikes in the 50 yrs of riding and also own a Triumph Thruxton . I'm just wondering if the click between 1-3 every time I change gear is normal especially down shifting . Also seems to have a decent clunk from the final drive area at very slow speed when stop starting and lastly a very loud whining noise from the gearbox in maybe second , third gear. The bike has only done 10,000 ks and has been very well maintained . I can happily live with these idiosyncrasies . I'd just like to know if its normal..
Cheers

Guzzi greetings and welcome to the GT Forum & Guzzi Famiglia. Where in Kiwiland are you? Dave here is in Auckland, and I have a few special connections to Invercargill (The Munro Family).

Hope you'll add your info and a photo or two to the Registry here; https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/v9-registry-picture-thread-add-your-bike.16400/

Noises are pretty normal on Guzzis, and most all shaft drive bikes really. Search and read, and you'll like find the same comments. Hope to see you posting often.

Hello Sharkbait and welcome!

I, too, am new to Guzzis. However, I have owned and ridden three other shaft drive bikes and they have all been quiet with respect to the drive train.

I currently have a 2010 V7 Cafe and have not noticed any gear whine, but have sometimes experienced "clicking/clunking" when downshifting. However, I have not experienced "... a decent clunk from the final drive area at very slow speed when stop starting..."

Having said that, my Guzzi experience may be an outlier and so the noises and clunks you are experiencing may be totally normal as Todd has suggested.

Thanks for that Jason . The V9 just seems to make noises i'm not familiar with . With 10000ks I feel sure everything is ok just different to the older BMWs and Jap bikes I have had . Cheers

I have the same model and color as you. 10,300 MILES on it. Changed oil yesterday (note there is no front drain like shown in the manual) and thought of doing other oils.

No noises. My gearbox just snicks. Of course with Harley Davidson's, BMW's, BSA's and more, I am used to hard and slow shifting as normal. Might just be me but I find no issues with the shifting. My bike is a 2017 white Roamer and I sure do like it.

Hi Sharkbait,
I just joined this forum today, and bought my 1st Guzzi 7 days ago. A 2019 V9 Bobber Sport. I don’t have many miles on it yet, but so far, no “decent clunk” and no “very loud whining” from anywhere on the bike, at anytime. Just thought I’d throw that out there. Happy riding.
Cheers!

Hi DinoV9, Thanks for that . I really enjoy riding the V9 and I reckon Ill just have to get used to the Italian flavor. Cheers

Gidday Larry , After the comments I've received I reckon i'm over reacting . Maybe the knocks and clunks are just stuff rattling around in my old head . Good to meet you . Cheers

After having read heaps of comments from other members with different models of Guzzi it appears I have solved my clunky slow speed gearbox noises . Simple fix . Remove ALL free play from accelerator cable . Everything now moves very smoothly with virtually no back lash and the slow speed whining is quite normal . I also came across a few guys interested in fitting fly screens . When I bought my bike it had a Dart screen fitted and I found a really annoying wind buffeting . Removed the screen , now much better.

My experience with the leftover 2017 V9 Bobber I purchased in 2019 new has been pretty much the same as you are seeing with your Romer. I have never had a small block Guzzi prior to this bike having owned and ridden big block Guzzis for many years with the five speed trany common to those bikes. Plenty of clunking and clacking with those units and never had a failure with any of them. When the Bobber was new the tranny was pretty much the same as the other bikes I had owned but as it has broken in I did notice a whine when in 1-3rd gears. Nothing I feel is a big deal. Bike shifts fine and no noises or vibrations I would think are anything to worry about. I am now coming up on the second service at 6k miles. Changed both transmission and rear drive oil at 900 miles and am debating going with the listed schedule for doing so again or just going ahead and doing it at this next service again.
