clunking sound

When I'm pulling away from a stop, usually after the bike has been parked, I sometimes here a single "clunk" sound from the rear. I would say it happens after I've pulled away about 3 feet or so. Definitely doesn't happen more than it does happen but I heard it twice today so I'm curious. Anyone else notice this? Is it something to investigate?

Thanks,
Dan

toolbag shifting?

My dad had the same problem with his lexus once. It turned out to be the break pads flopping around inside the calipers.

I am having something like you describe with one of my CARCs... I found the fitting on top of the CARC was loose - where the torsion bar (or as Guzzi calls it the 'reaction bar') connects to the top of the CARC. I could grab it and wiggle it around found the fitting in the CARC was loose. I hear a clank when taking off and sometimes I hear it under heavy rear braking (heard it today in an emergency braking situation and reproduced it again to see if I really heard it the first time).

I haven't rebuilt it yet but I see in the parts diagram that there is a bush and some clips involved...

Yes mine doe's the clunk thing too! when i let the clutch out as it's taking up it makes the dreaded clunking noise?? when i'm under heavy exceleration it doesn't seem to do it? Also at cruise top gear unloaded there is a very pronounced clunking noise like a tooth has broken off?? Get back on the gas and it stop's? Mine's done it from new and it's booked next week for its first service, didn't think it was all that bad until i went for a blast today wearing my open face shortie helmet with the exposed ears!! sounded like a beer can full of nuts and bolts! Never had a shaft drive before, surely this can't be normal? Am going to call the dealer tomorrow to see what he thinks? :?:

Big mistake. Keep ear plugs in at all times.

Went and grabbed the torsion bar and it seemed solid so I don't think that is the source...

I'll go right out and take the pads out and see if that fixes the problem :)

Picked the bike up after it's first service, my dealer reminded me that it is a guzzi and never wear shorty helmets! He said it's nothing to worry about and to just ride the thing! i tend to agree but i'm glad i brought it up anyway! Riding the 150km home it was a blast and the bike seemed very quiet and smooth now it's on full synthetic and had the tappets done. :D
