How accurate is a 2009 Griso 8v's speedometer?

My last bike was off by 8% or so and the last cop I encountered didn't like that excuse, or maybe he just didn't like me

On my first Griso I had a bicycle speedo/computer as back up (due to the well known tendency for the original to pack up if the sensor gets wet combined with the high cost of on the spot fines in some European countries ......don't ask how I know!). With the bicycle thing set up carefully to match the circumference of the tyre it "agreed" with the factory speedo to within a couple of mph. Of course accuracy of both are dependant on having the correct tyre pressure as that effects circumference & therefore what the speedo reads.

My Norge one reads a few percent high, like 75mph when the true speed is 70mph.
Not surprising a cop would not take speedo inaccuracy as an excuse for speeding, speedos will always exaggerate your speed, never read low. In most countries it is illegal for a manufacturer to provide a speedometer which reads low, they can read up to 10% fast though usually.
Best way to check is to compare with a sat nav.
