Is it possible to make them run a bit hotter? I don't find mine run that hot on 'Full'..... I use thin summer gloves so I presume that they'd cook me more than they do.... Or am I getting old and feeling the cold more?

Installing handguards to cut the wind could help. You can't improve the grips themselves.

Looking at the avatar, stelvio handguards....
My grips get pretty hot, original Guzzi, perfect for baking Pizza.
I'm afraid you're in the Ice-age....

Check the voltage at the grips themselves with the setting on full. You can gain access to the terminals by peeling back the grips a little bit.

If the voltage is not close to the battery voltage, then measure the voltage between the positive terminal and the positive battery terminal. Then do the same for the negative one with the negative battery terminal. Any significant voltage reading will indicate a voltage drop in the supply causing reduced current in the grips themselves.

If you find some voltage drop, clean the connections where the grips plug into the wiring harness. These are notorious for problems. Good luck.

I thought about bad connection, but it is unlikely to affect both grips to the same degree. Maybe they have a common ground connection- it could be a weak point. Another unlikely, but theoretically possible scenario is low output from the alternator. What is voltmeter reading and does it change much when the grips are on?

Thanks for the tips guys, I'm a mechanical guy, this electrical stuff is the work of bealzebub!! If I get time, I'll have a look over the weekend and see if there are any obvious problems.

Cheers Neil

Neil, your'e probably loosing too much heat with the summer gloves. I recently bought a pair of First Gear Cold Weather Gloves. They are designed for use with heated grips; no insulation on the palm side. I must admit I didn't have the heated grips long before I got these gloves but they work well. Besides they were comfortable from day one. My buddy and I both have '06 Breva 1100's he has the MG heated grips and I have the Oxford heated grips, both have the MG Stelvio hand guards. We drove the Az rally from northern Calif through temps ranging from 30's to the 60's (F). My setting are 30, 40, 75, and 100 %. The highest I used was 75 while in he snow most of the time 40%. I'm sure the Oxford's get hotter than the MG grips but the MG grips are better all around. The MG grips have 3 levels, he used level 2 most of the time. I didn't hear one complaint from my buddy about having cold hands.

My hands have gotten more sensitive to the cold over the years...

Rafael

Thanks Rafael, a mate's got the Oxford grips and they do push out a fair bit more heat. I'm actually wondering if this is more down to how cold it is relatively this year, and that I am running these summer gloves from the start, rather than using my old winter gloves at the start of the riding 'season', I'm afraid I no longer ride all year round!!!
