Help, 1200 Sport won't start when hot

I swapped the relays as suggested previously and also left the cover off the starter hoping to troubleshoot if it quit while I was riding. We took a long ride yesterday and did not have a problem for the first time this year, of course the weather was not quite so hot either. I will be taking a look at the wires and checking voltages to see if the fix Todd posted will help, but I'm just having a small problem making sense of the whole thing since it seems in my experience to be heat related. Wondering if maybe leaving the cover off helped dissapate some heat.

I won't be able to make that fix for a week or so, but look forward to it.

I share your puzzlement as my own far-too-frequent encounters with this have all been when hot ... ambient temps and engine. Let it rest for awhile (depending on the temp of outside and Norge), and it's varoom. Overnight is an always start. An electrical engineer here can probably explain, but I'll be happy enough if it simply resolves this maddening issue.

Guzzi owes the Havens more than kudos.

I bought my 1200 a week ago, and when I went to pick it up the previous owner was puzzled when it wouldn't start. It was a very hot day and the bike had been out in the sun, so thinking it might be a fuel pressure problem, he opened the full tank. WHOOOSH! A goodly quantity of fuel gushed out. We finally got it started and I've not had the problem since, but I have noticed that when the bike is hot the tank was definitely pressurized.

Today I performed a canisterectomy, as described elsewhere in this forum, and then took an hour test ride, after which I left her out in the sun for a half-hour. Then I cautiously opened the tank---and no sign of Built-up pressure!
