I just signed the papers for a new 2010 Griso 8V. :p

I am quite excited about it. I have lusted after this bike for awhile and bought it despite being offered a Brutale 990R for 13K.

A couple of questions:

1. I understand the 2010 is pretty well sorted out, but is there anything that I should be aware of?

2. What bags to folks recommend? The Guzzi bags look nice but the Hepco and Beckers seem more practical. I will be using the bike for work so I need bags for my laptop, papers, etc.

3. The first thing that I will do is replace the exhaust. What exhausts to people recommend? If I were to purchase the right-sided GT-Rx exhausts can I still use the Hepco and Becker bags?

4. Finally, what windscreen to folks recommend? I want to tour some and want to avoid being pounded by wind.

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Awesome! Congrats on the G12.

#3. I'll give my personal recommendation for the Guzzi accessory Termignoni can. Right sound, top shelf finish, and gets lots of compliments - but she's spendy. I cannot comment for sure about the bag clearance, but I would think it's OK since it mounts in the same place and is smaller in diameter.

Love to see a pic. when you get a chance.

1a: Congratulations on your new G8V and welcome to the forum! I think you'll be satisfied with your Moto Guzzi over the MV Agusta!! :D

1b: The 1151cc 8V (4V) motor you have had an outstanding recall regarding the cam followers for the early models, not sure if the new model year was shipped with the new components, it's worth checking into.

2: There have been a couple threads regarding accessories. (see below) I purchased the small tank bag and I would recommend it, although come spring time I'll be purchasing the Moto Guzzi large tank bag for its' map pocket on top. Are you sure you can't fit a laptop in a backpack? I personally don't care for side bags on the griso... :p

3: I just ordered my termignoni today (your order better not put mine on backorder... jk). I've heard about some people having problems fitting the termignoni + bags.

4: I can't comment on the windscreen, they're not my taste.

5: Feel free to check out the Griso picture thread.. Griso pics with the girls in the avatar would be welcomed. ;)

Hope this helps! Enjoy the bike!!!

You're not wrong. the Griso is known as an 8V, the Sport 1200 is known as a 4V, as are the Stelvio and the Norge. What's that all about?? That's why it is easier hen talking about Griso's to reffer to them as G850, G11 and G12 rather than Griso 2 valve and Griso 4 valve, or, or, Griso 8 Valve.... ARRRRGHHHH!!!!!!!

Thanks for the replies. All are very helpful. I think I'll go with the larger MG windscreen. I also may look into top cases. I really don't like wearing backpacks. In the warm weather, I wind up getting to work with a big "sweat" stain on my back. Really, not good when you work in an office environment. I also like being able to park the bike and stowing my helmet in a bag. My Multi had the paint matched, side cases, which worked well.

I will post up picks ASAP.

Congrats(!) and welcome!
Since the other questions have been covered, my GT-Rx right or left side was designed to fit the factory soft bags. If the H-B bags clear the OEM left side muffler, for sure it will clear mine on either side. Be aware that on the G8V/G12, fueling manipulation is mandatory with (most slip-on) mufflers if you want it to run anywhere close to acceptable (GT-Rx ECU flash only), all the way up to incredible (with my full kit).

Thanks, Todd. I am going to think about what to do now that I have all of this information.

Does anyone know if the Guzzi softbags are large enough for a laptop?

That depends on how big your laptop is. My 15.4" Sony Vaio is 14.2″ x 10.6″ x 1.6″ and doesn't fit in the soft bags but it will fit in my Hepco hard bags.

I have the small MG fairing on my G11. I don't think it makes much difference to wind blast, though it does keep the worst of the rain off the clocks when on the move. I tend to end up hunkered down behind my tank bag on faster stretches.

I run a Termi can on mine. It seems to be more upswept than the standard pipe and I don't think that the MG pannier kit will fit with it. Similarly it will reduce the chances of other pannier systems fitting I imagine.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Termi the only after market pipe you can use without voiding your warranty?
I love the GTrx but with only 2k on the clock I'd rather wait a while

If you have a dealer that will void your warranty because of a muffler, find a new dealer... or you can always slip the stock version back on if/as needed.

cyclobutch,
If you give me your email address I'll send you a picture of them mounted on my Griso.

Welcome.

The Givi screen and Ventura soft luggage system work well for me, as do the RAM mounts for GPS and video cam. Also have Union Jack tire valve caps to keep folks wondering.

The new Griso is in the house. :D What a beautiful red. I also got the Mistral pipe today and will install it over the weekend.

The owner's manual does not seem to have a run in schedule like my prior Ducatis. Any tips on running in?

Just ride it *normally* for the first 50 Kms. Then give it short bursts of heavy load/high throttle for the next 100Km while continuing to ride it *normally*. Then start thrashing the nuts off it for short bursts, (All that is possible on most public roads.) until first service which I suggest at 500 miles/800Km rather than the factory specified 1500Km. Having said that I'm not sure Griso Pinko ever had its oil changed??? It went like the clappers and never went wrong.

The main thing is that the WORST way to break in a new Guzzi is to 'Baby' it. If you want to glaze bores, pump out oil through the breather system and blow crankcase seals there is NO better way to do it than riding like the grandfather of the oldest man in the world.

Ride it.

Pete
