Metallic sound on clutch pull

Just bought a 2008 Norge left over (new). I have about 280 miles on it and just noticed (may have been there before but don't remember it) a "metallic sound" when the clutch is pulled in when in Neutral. I am suspecting it is there while in gear too but didn't try yet.

Anyone know about this or is it just customary on this bike?

BTW, Love the bike!

If it sounds like a loud rattle when you pull in the clutch lever, it is normal for these clutches. My Norge has done it since new and so have the other 4 Guzzis I've owned. I understand your concern since I felt the same way when I bought my first Guzzi, a 2000 Jackal 10 years ago.

Lucky it's not one of those Duct Tape things with the dry clutch rattling louder than the engine! They all do it so don't worry. I was warned though to not leave it in gear when at traffic light or in heavy traffic - always snick it into Neutral - don't know if this is really valid as it was the dealer i Purchased the bike from who told me this - they have a less than ideal reputation in Sydney.

Pete, any comment on this?

Thanks for the replies so far. That is good news to hear. I came off a BMW that had no clutch noise but hard shifting and the dealer said that was perfectly normal. This is my first shaft drive and I don't want to have a big issue from the get-go. Funny you should mention the engine noise, I assume you are talking about the "valve clatter". You say that is normal also?

Not to get off topic but I have been looking for top cases and found the CooCase at Twisted Throttle to be very nice and cost effective. What I cannot find is the MG factory case so I can take a look at it to compare the differences. Anyone have any thoughts on where I might be able to see that animal? I am in Chico, CA on business this week, but live in RI.

Again, thanks for all the help in advance folks! Hope to see you out there riding one day!

Last time I saw a BMW clutch it was like a car's one, so no rattle. The Guzzi clutch has three plates rattling around when disingaged. To love a Guzzi you need to love that clutch rattle. I never really liked it, nor the looks and comments from those in the know.
