I'm a newbie to Guzzis. I just purchased an '82 V50. Can anyone tell me what would be the best choice for oil in the engine? Also, I got an oil filter that is internal. Can you tell me how I replace it. Sorry for the simple questions but its foreign to me. Thank you.

Hi Geno
This is a real nice bike and one with most qirks and niggles taken care of compared to the mark 1 and 2.

Oil is a dangerous topic
There are many good oils on the market. One thing you should take into consideration is, that Guzzi's has flat tappets. To be/feel safe, you may want to have oils with ZDDP present in the oils at a certain level like from 1200 to 1800. Now there are many oppinions to this

Let me tell you what I use on my 5 geese - and you'll have to make your own choice. I use Castrol TWS and add ZDDP myself - this is a very good 100% synthetic oil, but like most modern oils, with a very low level of ZDDP due to catletic converters in modern cars, so I add the ZDDP - just to make sure my cam and tappets are safe. Another option is Mobile 1 for classic V twins - it has the ZDDP level needed.

Now - many others may chime in on this - explosive subject    :pinch:

Quite simple, there is a cover at the bottom right front with a 13mm bolt. Look carefully at the cover's alignment before removing so you can get it back the same way. I also like to use a new o-ring on the cover each time I change the filter.

Thanks a bunch guys. I had no idea and now I know where to start. I'll definitely take your advice and start on this ASAP. Thanks again.
