Hi, all,

Just seen a pre-production version of the new Stelvio at the Motorcycle show at the NEC in Birmingham UK. You can check out pics on the 'net tho they call it the 2012 model! Strange, as it'll be out in Spring '11 in Europe.

It's OK in the flesh, not as bad as I feared. The seat is slightly narrower at the front, so better feet-down ability for shorter riders. The accessories plug is beside the dash, now. The dash itself has a black rev counter, not so nice as my '09, but I gather they've given it a decent fuel gauge at last!

The biggest change is the 32 litre tank, new windscreen and front end. The signature headlights now have a bit of a frown and the screen is a bit wider. But the tank! You can almost feel the thing is full of fuel, even when it isn't. The pocket has gone and the whole tank is smoother with no joins. Again, I prefer the aesthetic of the earlier bike, like mine, and I'm no cross-sahara rider so I don't mind my 18 litre tank.

I've seen him only on video, but it looks nice to me and the altered seat will make it better accessible for more people. For the wheels: if I don't count the looks, than there is some advantage above the one with spokes. Easier to clean, better airtight and I assume a better choice in tyres.
I hope to see it in real in February.
 
I'm off to the NEC on Sat, where I'll be climbing all over it and asking them if they have finally solved the cam/follower problem.
Because they bleeding aint on my 10 NTX :(

Yes, I also had a sit on the 'new' Stelvio on Sunday. As has been said the new dash layout is a bit plain and reminded me of a 1990's Yamaha ? The bronze is a great colour but I won't be rushing out for an upgrade. The revised Norge looks very impressive too.
Biggest disapointment of the show for me was the Honda Crossdresser (!), it looked tiny compared to a Varadero and nowhere near a 'prpoer' adventure bike. The Ducati Diavel looked poorly finished to me also ?
 
I had a sit on the very same bike today and was very impressed with the new seat and liked the screen too.. I hope the finished article has better moulding for the tank and fairing as it seemed a bit uneven to me. I'm not too concerened about the extra fuel capacity as I tend to stop around the 100 mile mark when touring and have a coffee and a cake so usually fill up at the same time. I must agree the new Norge looks good in white. I think I'd miss the little tank compartment too, I like to keep a little compact camera and my sunglasses in there.

I had a good look at it and wasn't that impressed with the cast wheels and new bodywork.
Yes it may have a bigger tank, but it just looked a bit cheap and nasty.
I won't be trading mine in for a new one.

The one bike that did impress me at the show was the new lowered BMW GS, heresy I know but it just felt right! :blush:
 
I can't say i like the new "improvements", especially the wheels, they look cheap. The new frowny lights just seemed to have been changed for the sake of it.
 
I thought the 'frowny lights' remineded me of the dreadfull conversion carried out by boy racers a few years back who gave thier car the 'bad boy' look ?
 
I have only seen pictures, but I think the 2011 is beautiful! I can't believe they managed to increase the fuel capacity that much without making it look like a pachyderm like the GS adventure. For those who will be riding back roads, rather than no roads, I think with the cast wheels is the way to go. When you consider Guzzi addressed the other "weaknesses' of the original Stelvio, (windscreen, seat, tires, fueling, mid-range torque) I would gladly trade mine even up if that were possible.
