Hi. has anyone fitted a Digital Gear Indicator to their Griso? Having got used to my BMWs telling me what gear I am in I would like to fit an aftermarket one. There seem to be 3 on the market so any feedback would help.

You need one of two things- a switch on every gear position so you know which one you are in....

or, a speed pickup to RPM calculator. Each gear has a specific ratio of RPM to speed providing the clutch is not pulled in. The Buell 1125 worked this way and would display a '--' when the clutch was in. All these inputs were in the ECU, so the calculation/display of them is easy.

I suppose that when the clutch is worn out the gear indicator will start displaying lower gears upon slippage?

that would seem to be the logical deduction.. when your clutch starts slipping, wouldn't you just replace it anyway? how long are you going to ride with the clutch slipping and during that time.. just go back to the way 99% of the riders count gears...

Well, I was not even a bit negative - just thought that this gear indicator will also provide early warning of slippage, maybe even before you initialy realize it as slippage may not originally appear under steady conditions but upon WOT upshifting. So you start see odd gear displayed for a split second upon upshifting and you know your clutch starts going before you actually feel it.
As far as how long goes, I have my DR650 slipping for the last year and a half - it's almost a semi automatic now :silly:

That's an interesting thought.. good idea and I suppose that would work!
