One key, no user code Help!

I bought a used 2007 Norge. It came with only one key, and the user code is unknown.

The way the transponder key security is set up, you need either two working keys or one working key and the user code to add keys to the bike.

I'm hoping that maybe there's a "secret" back door that will allow me to either recover the code or reset it. Alternatively, a way to force the bike to accept a new key.

Kind of a "reset" button. Can the dealer's Axone do that?

Is the user code stored in the ECU? If so, there must be an ECU replacement procedure that might work.

In the meantime, I'm trying to guess the user code, but there are 100,000 possibilities .... Tried last 5 of the VIN, 12345, etc...

Any information or help will be much appreciated ....

I've got exactly the same problem with my new (used) 2007 Griso - one key, no code. Please post any resolution if you found it

Thanks
Steve

A dealer with an updated navigator should be able to reset the dash code. Then you can enter the user code of your choice.

John - thanks for the tip. I went to my local Guzzi dealership and told them what I read and they didn't have a clue - I tried to press the issue, they said the navigator only read failure codes - I asked if it's the latest code - they said it was but more or less said it wasn't worth their time to find that functionality (since they don't think the ability to update the code in in there).

So, do you know if this ability actually exists? If so, can you tell me what drop down I should tell them it's under -- or if you're a guzzi tech in Huntsville, send me a PM and I'll ride out from North Ga and give you my business. I'd be happy to buy a key, I can give the key code - get it cut if you can unlock my bike and get the key registered for my bike.

thanks again

It appears I was in error about resetting the user code with Navigator. Following is the information I received from a friend at MGNA:

Do you know if the guy has reached out to his dealer &/or the original owner?

Got the VIN?

Has he tried all possibilities to crack the original owners’ user code? (zip code, last 5 of the VIN, birthday, anniversary, 12345,54321,00000,11111…)

Sorry buy there is no “back door”. We’ve tried.

The code is in the dash.

There are only two ways to over come this situation now:

1. Buy a lock set with keys and a new dash.

2. Cut new chipless keys (http://www.motorcyclekeys.com) from the one existing key. Carefully dig the chip out of the existing key & glue it to the antenna. This way the transponder always sees the known key regardless of what is turning on the ignition switch. A screwdriver will now start the bike but who steals Guzzis?

Looks like the best shot is the original owner. If you can PM the VIN to me, I'll see what I can find out.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I am pretty sure the standard code is 00000. Unless there has been an incident, this might still be the case. Some dealer/user may have modified it so try 11111, then 22222 etc up to 99999 to see if you get lucky...

I've been told that 00000 is the default (Told to me by the Moto Guzzi contact) - that didn't work. I also tried the last 5 digits of my VIN - all the common ones 11111... 99999 ascending, descending and the manufacture date of the bike - so far non have worked. Guzzi's advice was "Keep yur key in yar poket and prootect it weth your life"

The transponder hack sounds interesting - but I'd be completely f-d if it didn't work -- This is way too much work - seems like key cloning should work provided that the transponder sends the same signal. I did contact that key reference and they don't deal in Sidewinder keys (laser cut with the groves on the inside). You know, there's anti theft, and then there's this.

Hi 04Breva an Baglien,

have you allready read this pdf file.
It's a page from the service manual from a Griso 1200 8v.
It seams that a good dealer can help you both with your problem... I think...

Maybe this can help you.
Good luck.

In addition to the link above: yesterday I installed a new key lock on my 1200Sport and the 00000 code didn't work. . . a call to my dealer learned that it should be *****, that's the code the dealer use for a new bike and can only be changed with an Axone or so. After the user code I programmed the two new keys and all is working fine now.

the one thing you have ignored is that the user code is NOT available.
You're right, I've changed the post above.
It's a bit weird that a dealer/owner puts a usercode in and don't give that code to the new owner.

Hi,
sorry Brian, I didn't read good enough...
Martin, the code the dealer gave to you, is that a specific code for your lock alone?
Is such a code a kind of "override" code, to disable old codes?
Or can it be used for every lock in combination with the axone equipment?
If the first answer is a no and the last answers a yes, Brian could use it at a good dealer (or sombody else with a axone).
Just trying to think with you all, trying to help.
Brian, have you contacted Guzzi UK with your problem?
I don't know where Baglien and 04Breva comes from...

A miracle has occurred... I posted on this thread nearly 3 1/2 years ago about resetting the code - after interrogating the previous 2 owners of the bike about the code and coming up blank... after asking about 1000 questions about getting a key cloned with no luck, I was just out in the garage and needed the service code (12425) to check for an ECU message - when I was done I thought - huh, 5 digits like that damn code... I tried that, no luck. I walked in the house and thought "VIN" - I pulled up my title and took the last 5 digits from my VIN, put those in and it unlocked!!! So I reset mine... Now I can finally go out and get a new key!! WOO HOO!

I tried 000000 on a Norge and it worked!

Did it say "Enter User Code" before you started? I never tried entering all zero's in anyone's new bike to set it up for them.
