99 EV right cylinder and tach intermittently die together

Hi, this problem started occuring a week or so ago. I'm riding along and suddenly the right cylinder cuts out and the tach drops to zero. Anywhere from 5-60 seconds later it kicks back in and the tach spins up. I suppose something is loose. I am assuming that the tach feeds off the ignition system for the right hand cylinder but am not sure where they connect, and its hard to follow the encased wiring. Any advice? Thanks

PS good thing a goose will run OK on one cylinder in a pinch...

Re: 99 EV right cylinder and tach intermittently die togethe

Thanks John. I'm assuming the line from 54 drives the tach. I am fortunate to have 2 EVs so I'll try swapping the ignition module tomorrow and see if the problem persists.

I just realized you said a 99 EV. Do you have the P8 ECU or the 15M? I referenced the P8 schematic. Carl also has the EV schematic for the 15M, look at the 1998 EV schematic instead. In the US, the 1998 had the P8. I don't know the exact changeover year to the 15M.

Re: 99 EV right cylinder and tach intermittently die togethe

I have just spent several months tracking down the cause of identical symptoms on my '94 1100i Cali - those power modules looked to be likely culprits initially (the same component causes Ferraris to drop a bank of 6 cylinders in a V12)
however,in spite of many assurances that "coils either work or don't work" :?: , that is where my problem was - one coil
was breaking down intermittently with loss of that cylinder.
I don't know if it is significant that mine was the right side also - the tacho is driven by that side of the ignition system on my bike and probably on yours - haven't looked at your wiring schematic but since replacing the recalcitrant coil the bike is 100%.

Lofty
