The LCD portion of the dash would fade away and then come back. I observed it during first 20 min in every ride until today. It manifested today for 5 minutes into the ride and has been flawless since then. Needless to say I was on my way to a dealer to check on the problem.
Any suggestions where to look? I took the dash apart suspecting water, but the thing was dry.

I saw the same thing happen on my 1200 Sport a couple of days ago. It reappeared when I switched off the ignition and then back on. Hasn't happened since.

Since I only have a few more month's worth of warranty, I'm keen also to know the cause and if any $$$ hardware is involved.

I've had the same issue. I initially thought I had a resistance issue. So I replaced plugs and wires with NGK resistor gaps and it had no effect. My LCD kicks out at 3,500 rpm and doesn't come back on. I've been meaning to change the battery. Aside from the LCD issues, the battery has not shown any other signs of weakness. I've read somewhere on here that a battery change may be the cure.

Battery is not the issue. It is dash. I had the same problem and got it replaced under warrenty. A new dash cost around 800$ - or at least that's what I was told by the dealer.

Disconnected and reconnected the ECU (two rather large connectors, not easily accessible) and now I got heated grips according to the dash!... I can see they work, three levels, but I cannot turn them off.
I wonder if there are panniers somewhere hidden inside the bike.
