:S The rear Metzeler tyre on my 1200 8v is shagged, with less than 5000 miles on. Whilst looking at a new SE at the dealers, I noticed it had Pirelli Scorpion tyres fitted. Can anyone tell me how they compare? I don't need a supersport tyre, cos I ride like an old bloke (I am an old bloke!) Is there a dual compound tyre available? The Metz has flattened off badly, and the handling has gone to pot. There are so many tyres out there that it is confusing to say the least! Whilst the rear tyre is toast, the front has plenty of tread left on it, so that will stay on until it wears out. Cheers, Mick.

I don't mix and match tires front to rear. Keeping the worn front seems like a small amount of money to save at the expense of a proper matched set.
I have Michelin Pilot Road 2's (dual compound) on my Griso as well as my Daytona and the wifes V11. I think they are excellent.

:D No worries! I have run mismatched tyres on quite a few bikes in my time. To be honest, I couldn't detect anything that could be called detrimental. As I am currently unemployed, and as new tyres are not cheap, the front tyre is staying on! Thanks for your concern!

Micky,
I have just recently replaced my original Metzler M3 tyres with the new M5 version and have found them to be excellent.
Don't know about mileage yet as I have only done about 1500 km but it looks encouraging.
Tyre pressures will have a significant impact on tyre performance and especially wear with under inflation a particular problem. I used tyre gauges which I thought were accurate but turned out to be reading excessively high so my tyres on bike and cars were regularly under inflated.
I have now invested in a reliable and accurate gauge of my own and have noted improvements in both bike and car tyre performance and wear by maintaining the correct pressures on a regular basis.

I went from the Metzlers to Dunlop RoadSmarts (the rear is dual compound but not the front) and saw better wear And great handling. Couldn't find the Roadsmarts on my last trip and installed Perelli Angels instead, The Perellis aren't quite as sticky on start and stop but are surprisingly good in the rain... were cheaper... and appear to be wearing longer :)
(and did I mention I paid less for them? ;) )

I got 3,500 miles from my rear M3 and changed to a Michelin Pilot Road 2, getting 7,500 miles from that. I have now got a Pilot Road 3 on the rear and the Pilot Road 2 still on the front. As the Pilot Road 3 is now the latest Michelin sports touring tyre, you may be able to find the Pilot Road 2s for a good price.
I would certainly recommend them.

David
