Oil from alternator cover

This morning I noticed oil seeping (not enough to form a drip) at the bottom of my alternator cover. Without having the chance to dig into the problem further, has anyone noticed this from their Griso? Mines an '07 with 8,500 miles on it. Am I looking at a big problem?
 
Probably the seal on the front timing chest. You need to pull the cover to replace the seal. See item 19 on Tab 41 of the Griso parts manual.
 
I had a similar oil leak on a '97 California. It wasn't the oil seal itself that was the problem, but a sleeve that was on the end of the crankshaft (part number 37712306) that the oil seal ran on. This sleeve was letting oil seep between itself and the crankshaft, some gasket cement solved this issue.
 
Whilst it may look like coming from the Alt. Cover also look and see that the oil lines running past the alt cover don't have a small leak/wear through them like mine did giving a small spray over the alt cover.

I'd suggest that you pull that sleeve once again. Peer down inside and you will notice a nice o-ring. Or, more accurately, what used to be an o-ring when it left the factory. Mine was so brittle it fractured out in numerous pieces. When you change the timing chest seal, please also change the o-ring hidden inside the sleeve. Why the seal and o-ring are not sold as a 'kit' is beyond me.

Hi Patrick

Yes, I did replace the O-ring at the same time. But I also took the belt and braces approach, and made sure it wasn't going to leak again. The O-ring that came out appeared fine, i.e. not brittle, but I replaced it anyway.
