So, as the new Griso just sits there now in the garage, I am compelled to do things to it while I await the first crocus pops out of the ground in a couple of months.

My Norge's HyperPro shock started leaking. I thought that I had overloaded it or something, but it appears that something got stuck on the slider and it ripped the seal, causing fluid loss. On Jim Barron's (Rose Farm Classics) recommendation, having Bruce Blake at Michigan Engineering, Inc. http://www.mei-inc.com, rebuild it. For $160, Bruce does a "asic service, full disassembly, inspection, deburr / polishing, replace damaged Hyd Shims & new "O" rings & oil, Dyno tested before ship. Not exactly sure what the "dyno testing" is, but happy about the rest, especially compared with cost of new shock. Thinking about putting OEM back on while out here -- Toto land -- as that plushness may help with pavement cracks, which are more of a concern than intense curves.

I mention all of this because I don't want that to happen with the Griso. So, as usual, I'll overdo it. Have already ordered "Shock Socks" for Norge and Griso, http://www.traxxion.com/ventedshocksock.aspx, and am now looking at a hugger for the Griso. Have a Skidmarx fiberglass one on the Norge -- which, apparently, did little good for its shock protection. But, undeterred by that experience, thinking, as I said, about one now for the Griso.

Thought the cost for the carbon-fiber version was silly ($265 v. $165 for fiberglass), but am not sure for the Griso. The Norge's fiberglass one was hidden from view and has been a bit of a PITA. It's pretty beaten up in looks, and has fractured, requiring repair. So, am wondering if the carbon-fiber might not be "worth" the cost. Yeah, I know, it's just chrome by another name. :p

I also see that the Stucchi version is a wee bit cheaper and seems to look a bit better, too, tho that's a YMMV sort of thing.

Compare http://www.mgcycle.com/product_info.php?products_id=1728 & http://www.streetfightersbydesign.com/skid moto htm.htm

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions, flames?

Thanks.

I know the carbon fiber Huggers by Skidmarx are pricey, but I put one on my Norge 4 years ago and it has not given me bit of concern since, Loctited every bolt and nut. Given that experience I ordered one for the SE even before I took possession, Handed it to GuzziSteve at Rider's Hill and had him do it while waiting for him to do the PDI.

I guess that is a testimonial whether it worth any thing or not is up to the readers perspective.

Many thanks.

I am now getting my list in priority order. And, darn it, think that is up ahead of the H-B stuff.

I'll go the c/f route.

I don't think he's going for the look but more for function.

I have those huggers by Skidmarks on both my Grisos...
Real happy with those and the look is great IMO without being in your face.

On my 09 I have the expensive carbon fiber one (Gift) and on the wife's 07 I got the regular one that I painted to match the bike.
It is a good idea to have something to protect the shock unit back there.
Also, cleaning is a bit easier.

Correct.

I did not know if c/f is all about looks or was sturdier. Appears to be former only. Don't mind the extra $100 (so much) if held up longer.

Thanks.
