Hi there,

Before buying Hyperpro's springs for my Breva 1100 (a Norge front fork like), I need advices.
A rock french rear shock is on mine, EMC Sportshock 1
Cheaper than Öhlins, better than oem Sachs !

So,

Option 1, get hyperpro application list : SP-MG12-SSA001
OR
Option 2, to choose the extra 1200 Sport : SP-MG12-SSA002

Knowing Todd's notice :

They will fit/work fine. Here in the States, HP USA has two versions, one for the Breva 1100/Norge 1200, and a slightly stiffer version for the 1200 Sport (2V only verified so far)

What about a slightly stiffer... I hesitate yet.

Please, show me the way...

Ciao ragazzi.

Contact HyperPro direct. They will ask you your (geared) weight and sell you the appropriate kit.

Re: [BREVA 1100] Hyperpro's fork springs choice

Good morning (or evening),

Well, two emails sent to Hyperpro Holland.
As I write no response yet.

So, no one to give me a clue ? :(

Thank you and goodbye.

Vince Klorto.

Re: [BREVA 1100] Hyperpro's fork springs choice

Post your weight (passengers and gear?) below along with your riding style, I'll give you some direction.

Re: [BREVA 1100] Hyperpro's fork springs choice

Okay,

Let's go.

My weight is around 87 kg geared, and sometimes I ride with a passenger (63 kg geared), a tank bag, two side cases and top case.

My driving style is "sport touring". I ride mostly on small roads or mountain roads (eg the Alps).
Never highways or expressways. Even less in the city.

I hope these informations will help you in my choice between the two Hyperpro fork springs I can fit on my B11.

Thank again. ;)

P.S. I wish you a good recovery.

Vince, so you are right on the edge. If you prefer a softer ride, get the Norge springs, if you prefer it a littler more firm (and based on you do mainly small/mountain roads, I'd probably recommend the 1200 Sport springs).
I will soon offer a full kit for ~$400 US that includes new springs, valving spacer, aluminum spacer and new pre-load caps as shown below.

Re: [BREVA 1100] Hyperpro's fork springs choice

Dear Todd,

Unfortunately, a $400 device is far too expensive for me.
Here, in France, Hyperpro springs kit cost 134 euros (circa $173) including shipment.
So, i'm forced to purchase the cheaper one due to "my wallet size". :(

I thank you once again.

Oh, by the way, so far no response to my question coming from Hyperpro.
Dutchmen are very busy !

Re: [BREVA 1100] Hyperpro's fork springs choice

Hi Todd,

I'm curious about that kit, and I have two main questions.

1, what do the "flow regulators" do? Is it an emulator kit? It doesn't look like you have rebound or compression damping adjustability. Is this the only kit that manufacturer makes that will fit the Breva 1100?

2, will the fork spring rate be customized to the riders weight?

Regards,
David B.

p.s. heal up quick.

Re: [BREVA 1100] Hyperpro's fork springs choice

Todd:

Just to confirm, the fork springs for the 2v 1100 Breva, Norge 1200 & 1200 Sport are all interchangeable? The 1200 Sport fork uses a cartridge type fork versus the damper rod in the Breva / Norge, so i thought they would not be interchangable.

I am wondering if I could soften up the front ride of my 1200 Sport by installing Norge fork springs.

Thanks,

Jason

The flow regulator is essentially an emulator. Much simpler in design, but it works quite well.
The spring rate will be spec'd to the riders weight, yes.
Thanks, long recovery road ahead, but progress has been good so far.

The springs are interchangable, as well as one could swap all of the internals. But you are correct in that the B11/N12 are damper rods (kit above only), and the 12S needs to be re-valved... something I do offer.
Soften the ride? How much do you weigh? What's your sag set to? You've tried adjusting the compression/rebound damping under the fork caps?

Todd:

Thanks for the info, I didn't know the forks were very similar amongst the 3 models. I just checked, and all 3 models according to the parts guide have the same spring part number (05526630), do you know why the spring rates would be different? Do they use different length spring preload tubes?

There is no preload adjustment on the front forks for the 1200 Sport, I have tried adjusting the compression / rebounding damping, however this seemed to make very little difference.

I find the ride quiet harsh at low speeds on the goat tracks we call roads here in Australia. I am going to check the sag this weekend (I weigh 88kg / 194lbs and mostly ride solo) and if it is out, I might think about adjusting the preload tube. I really think to make the difference I want, I will need to change the springs. From other people's experience, just changing the oil visocity will not make that much of a difference.

When you say you offer re-valving for the Sport forks, would this make much difference to the ride or is it more aimed at making the suspension more sporty (i.e. harder for better handling)? Do you sell the valves as a kit that I can install? If so, could you let me know the price?

At the moment I am thinking of maybe installing HyperPro springs (or maybe Breva or Norge springs), with a lighter grade of oil and maybe different valves (if this will improve the ride).

I guess I am a bit of a poser, I like the sporty looks of the 1200 Sport but really want a soft ride....

Jason

The Breva and Norge springs are the same, and I haven't yet verified it, but I think the 12S are as well. I am aware of no preload adjusters on the 12S forks.
At 194 lbs, you are likely sacking out the stock springs. You actually need firmer springs in order to better your ride. Valving on the 12S forks are internal and involve shim stacks, which need to be done by a specialist who has knowledge of these forks.
It won't be cheap, but you can enjoy an impressive ride with these forks (B11/N12 or 12S) once sorted. It's a tough game for the OEMs.

Todd,

If going the way of the HyperPro spring replacement on a 12S, what's involved in the re-valving process?

Save your money on the springs and put it towards the full rebuild since I include springs if/as needed. I redo the shim stack, replace the oil and springs of course.
