Hi,

Does anybody know the number of teeth which the camshaft position sensor monitors? (also know the phase/revolution sensor)

Or put another way does anybody know what the frequency of the signal should be from the sensor per rpm.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Crankshaft Sensor Info

Here is a little desktop reverse engineering. Yes, I counted the teeth from the photos

The “tone wheel” behind the timing gear has 46 teeth and 2 missing teeth (5 o'clock position).

Addendum.

I just noticed marcus_b’s avatar, he may need the info for 1100 push rod engine.

"Tone wheel" same as the 8V engine, 46 + 2 missing teeth. Since the tone wheel is mounted at the end of the camshaft, the speed reduction ratio should be 2:1 (same as the 8V engine).

Re: Crankshaft Sensor Info

Hey Phang, I haven't been inside a timing case since my last Mk3 in 2002, what model is that?

Big Question: Anybody experimented with stepped keys to alter Ignition and or Cam timing by a few degrees?

Re: Crankshaft Sensor Info

Neither do I

It is a 1200 8V (aka Quattro Valvole) engine, photos extracted from Guzzi manuals.

Yes, I did on my Scura. It uses a pin like the later photo rather than the keyway (which I'd prefer). I slotted the hole in the gear but the only thing holding the timing where you want it is the drive gear sandwiching the 'tone gear' against the flange on the camshaft.
It's a pain pulling everything off to slot the sprocket but less of a pain afterwards if you need to make a minor adjustment to the timing as you just have to loosen the drive gear nut a bit and stick a finger in there to move the tone gear.
It's not easy to make the small adjustments you might want to make. I ended up cranking the motor (plugs out) with the timing cover off and using a timing light. It makes a bit of mess.
I was able to greatly reduce my detonation problem but to make it completely go away. My pre-advance timing would not be enough. It's definitely a compromise situation but it is a Guzzi, after all.

Re: Crankshaft Sensor Info

On that score (detonation) you could research MyECU by Cliff Jeffries in Sydney or TuneBoy (another Australian product) which allow both EFI and Ignition curve alterations.

These are not yet adaptable to the latest CARC models and their ECU's but all the V11 range are covered.

MyECU is an exchange/replacement of your stock ECU and TuneBoy is a license fee for a total reflash/reprogram of your stock ECU. There are no extra components, extra wires etc. Both are reversable.
