Ok For all you out there with much more trouble shooting experience than me .

I have a 2008 2 valve Norge that will start in gear with the clutch lever out or depressed. The neutral lite works when in neutral so I assume the neutral switch is ok. I have replaced the clutch switch that was not functioning and the side stand switch is bypassed. What do you think?

Also when I turn the ignition switch on to start the bike it shows the service and the service red light comes on. I have gone through the dash diagnostic and reset the service several time but this continues to occur every time I turn the key on. The only way to get the dash to read normal is to immediately start the engine when I turn it on then it will come up normal.

What do I need to check?
Thanks in advance for your help
Dave

As you are aware, there are several safeties in the start logic and the ECU controls the starter. For some reason, the ECU is a bit our of it's mind (Illogical). My suggestion would be to clean and inspect the connections at the ECU. If the symptoms don't go away please let us know and we can delve deeper. Other than than, just follow good practice and always start the bike with the clutch squeezed.

Hello;

So several items are in the loop, Gear Box, Clutch, Side Stand, (not center stand).

When all logic seems to escape the diagnosis... Pull the positive side of the battery and re-boot the bike... You will loose your clock, but it also re-sets the ECU (both of them- dash and engine). If you press the started TOO early in the light-show / Clock sweeps, then you will get the red alert symbol. Best to let it finish before pressing the start button.

You should be able to start the bike in gear with the clutch pulled, and the kick stand UP. Neutral or not. no need to turn the key off and on to do so.

Ok thanks for those responses
I went back to the last known item the new clutch switch and have discovered that the little plunger on the end is not returning all the way to kick out the start in gear. So have resolved that issue I need another new clutch switch to replace the new one just installed.
As to the other I will try what you suggest and disconnect the battery and see if that helps.
I also noticed that the dash code comes up 07 before I clear them which I think comes up as oil sensor but don't see any loose wires and oil pressure seems fine.
I will try to research this a little more
Thanks for the input
Dave

Hi Dave:

Re: The oil light.... Use the recommended 10-60 oil. There have been reports of faulty oil lamp indications with anything else. It has to do with improper pressure reading caused by the weight of any oil other than recommended.

Well i tried the battery disconnect with no positive results. The service light still is on when you turn the key on and does not clear when started. It does go away if you start the engine during the light show just after turning the key not waiting for it to clear . Could this be a faulty oil sensor? there are two x x on the dash code area 07 ?
Thanks
Dave

It will be a faulty oil sensor. You can prove it by shorting the connection at the top of the sensor to the engine (yes, I know it's a real pig to get access to). Be sure to replace with one with the genuine part number, not any old Guzzi oil sensor switch that happens to fit.

You were correct,I ordered a new sending unit only to discover a loose connection at the sending unit. Cleared up the service light.
Thanks for all your input
