Hepco Crash-bars

People have had this same problem with the Hepco bars on Vstroms for a few years... so it's not just a flaw in the Stelvo bars...

It's an issue they had with the welding in the area where they would snap (refer to the photo's on page 2). They have fixed the problem by welding it secure. I have them on my Stelvio and I have had the bike down on both sides and it held up just fine. Once my ankle turned over and the bike laid down on the left side and the second time I was entering the freeway and leaned in to a turn and the rear slid out because there was oil all over my tire. They have well paid for themselves already. When you get them just make sure that the weld surrounds the whole area. Refer to page one on this thread, the last two photo's show the better more secure weld. If you are going to purchase them make sure the weld looks like the one in the photos. Good luck and safe travels!! :)

Today I got the answer from Hepco:

They are sorry, but they cannot help me.

I will get my money back

Fitted my Hepco and becker engine bars today, as well as replacing the plastic sump guard with an alloy one. Very easy tasks, the engine bars look good and quality of finish looks fine. I'll update if there's a problem with them.

Where did you source the alloy sump guard?

Hi Bruce, I bought it from Corsa Italiano, a London moto Guzzi dealer, its featured on their website.

Thanks, fatal. I think it would give a greater sense of security, knowing there is a more substantial piece protecting the bottom of the engine.

Cheers,

Bruce

hey Bruce, how are you? ... It's a guzzi sump guard. Check with your dealer in London they may have one and if not they might be available here in Toronto. I saw one on the only other Stelvio I've encountered on Sat. Pretty substantial. Probably costs your first born though all the Guzzi accessories I've ordered have so far. I'llwill check for you tomorrow and see if and how much as I will be at the dealers here again tomorrow. I'll let you know

Thanks, Doug. Hope you had a good Easter weekend. I will look into it. Depending on cost, it might be one of those accessories I will defer for a bit, but I am interested in checking it out. I will ask at my dealer as you have suggested. You are correct. The accessories are not exactly priced by Wal-Mart! :D

Just to report that I fitted the new improved (gussetted) Hepco and Becker Crash Bars to my Stelvio. Eventually found that the annoying rev related buzz/rattle was from a clean shear on the right hand unit. The break was rusty so it wasn't new.

Not sure these items are up to it. It is probably just crap welding. All fixed now - I'll report when the other side goes!!!

I bought my Stelvio 2nd hand in May. It already had the H&B engine bars on. The plate fixing to the engine on the right hand side had fractured right across, this was not at the weld. Ditched them and fitted the MG ones

With less than 10,000 km on my new Hepco & Becker crash-bars on my Quota have both broken. Left side last year, right side last week. Had a strange buzz at about 4000 RPM. the response Ive got so far to my inquiry is where did you buy? when and who installed them. I told them I installed them, somehow forgetting to tell them Im a papered motorcycle mechanic. Im not really expecting much.
They both seem to have cracked along the edge of the weld, cracking first as there is a prominent rust line part way into the fresh crack,
Ill keep you posted.
