Hi all

I fitted a Tom Tom Urban Rider to my Norge today. I didn't buy the MG kit but purchased a powered cradle from Tom Tom and fitted that to the stem cover as per the instructions for the MG kit (available somewhere here on Guzzitech). The Urban comes with a non-powered cradle and some fairly clunky Ram Mount fittings.

All went well BUT be warned, if you drill as per the template marks on the underside of the cover, the holes are about 4 mm out of line  . Fixable but irritating.

Cheers

I tried the urban rider software on my older rider V2 how cool is that "windy road setting" click it for the back holiday and off you go.

Interesting.......I hadn't thought of doing that

Are there any issues regards maps or other problems you've come across?

Have now owned the Urban Rider for just over a week. The kit is superb ... easy to read, very quick to re-calculate, love the twisty roads option ... in a word: Brilliant!

BUT ... without the charging bike mount (extra £40) it is completely useless! ... Battery only last 4 hrs before it lets you know that it is getting low.

http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products/bike-navigation/urban-rider-europe/index.jsp#tab:specification... still states that:
Here's a cut/paste from urban rider folks so the standard dock is different but maybe the £40 one is the same as rider2s charging dock. Urban riders fonts and layout is better. When you over speed Rider 2 bleeps and flashes the speed and limit red bottom right but you cant read it cause the fonts to small. Urban rider is brilliant.

1) "alternative power source 12 volt motorbike battery". (Not true unless you pay £40 for mount)

2) battery life approx 8 hrs. (Not true ... in my case battery life is approx 4 hrs)

3) the charging dock is described as "a spare for your existing dock". (No it isn't .. the existing dock is non-charging)

I can not believe that TomTom deliberately intend to mislead customers by hiding the fact that they will need to buy the charging mount? Get this fixed or you will have a lot of unhappy customers who feel they were mislead.

I guess it would be possible to mount the Tom Tom in the non-powered cradle and fit a power lead to the USB port but it's best to go with the powered cradle. It has an inbuilt fuse and overcharging protection which is why it's so expensive. I agree it's pointless selling the unit without it.

By the way, the Tom Tom website says "up to 6 hours" battery life. I expect you might get this if you don't connect anything to bluetooth.

Regards

It is, but you'd have to remove the USB port cover, as an open cover will prohibit mounting into the provided cradle.
Doing that isn't difficult, the cover is held in place by a spring loaded pin, but you'll loose the waterproofness.

I finally dumped my TomTom for a Zumo 660. I got frustrated with the support in the US, lack of replacement parts, and their dropping all motorcycle offerings. Couple that with the known problem with the powered cradle failing after a couple of years and I just can't deal with them any more. I could purchase a replacement cradle from the UK for roughly $100 plus shipping and still have lousy service or go to Garmin and have exceptional service and the ability to easily create custom routes.

The drill points on the Norge cover are different for different years. The '07 for example is bossed for the TomTom Rider 1. The Rider 2 mount is slightly different. I believe the Urban Rider uses the same mounting points at the Rider 2. You can get the later cover from Moto Guzzi for about $125 IIRC, or do like I did and and take the cover off and use a sport bike stem mount.

Maybe if I lived in the UK I'd consider another TomTom, but not here in the States.
