Good morning all,
Let me start by apologizing for being a rookie... I couldn't find this issue using searches and I'm still not 100% convinced I'm posting in the proper forum...
I just bought a v7 racer and love it to pieces, but cannot get the hang of this cold start issue...
I can't seem to get the sequence of fast idle setting/throttle position to yield a smooth start and steady idle to warm up..
I've had many bikes (carberators and full injected) but have never had a bike so temperamental in the mornings... I often have to Bobb the trottal for a good 4 minutes before I can even think about letting it idle on its own.. I would like to get some louder pipes to be audible on the road but I leave for work early and this start/revv/stall repeat procedure just will not do....
Any tips or things that I can trouble shoot to even see if my fast idle/choke unit is even working??

First make sure the bike has had a proper valve adjustment, throttle body sync, and TPS reset. Small blocks can be cold blooded. When we had one it started best by not using the fast idle lever, just slowly open the throttle while cranking over. Once started the fast idle lever could be used.

thank you...
ill be looking into this asap!
while she was ideling after i had her warmed up and road her a bit, i tried bumping up the fast idle lever and it had no effect untill it clicked in the full open position and only rased the RPM about 300-500 rpm...

Look around the small block section, there are plenty of posts on correcting the high speed lever.

Adjusted the fast idle lever (it did have stock slop in it) and implemented this starting procedure this morning.... I only had to hit the starter once, night and day improvement, thank you!!!

I used to have this problem with my Racer.
Until it was warmed up it used to stall, jerk and kangaroo all over the place but I've developed a cold start technique that works for me every time.
I don't touch the cold start lever.
I just turn over the engine with the throttle slightly open till it catches, then immediately release the throttle and leave the bike idling for a minute or so.
Sounds simple but it really does work and I have no problems at all now.

None of these problems over here with the V7. from january till now (= 0 to 30 degrees C) never a problem starting the bike. I never run on idle for a time, just fire up and take off.
