I've been offered a salvaged Bellagio that had been stolen. The lock / ignition switch was drilled by the thief but is still in place and the bike still has an original key but it won't work due to the damage. I know I can get a new lock / ignition switch & keys for it.....but would there be any problems changing them over & setting new codes for the new keys to work OK ?

I'd say count on purchasing a new dash and immobilizer antenna along with the switch and keys. As far as I know there is no way to program an old dash without two original keys or the user code. Or if you can buy it cheap enough, it is a candidate to break for parts.

John, Thanks for that warning. I'll price up a new dash & antenna before I buy. Hopefully I may be able to buy the bike cheap enough to make it worthwhile despite that extra expense, otherwise I'll walk away.

It is a wise man who can walk away from a tempting bike deal.

Does the Bellagio have the 5 AM ECU? We don't have them over here so we aren't all that familiar with them.

There is nothing in the manual about the keys being coded on a Bellagio or am I looking in the wrong place?

I just looked at the manuals too. I didn't see anything listed for key codes either. However, it looks like the typical dash for a bike with the 5AM ECU. Those do have the immobilizer function in the dash, but I didn't see an immobilizer antenna in the parts list. We don't have the Bellagio over here so we aren't that familiar with them. See if you can check with a local dealer to get the information you need about the keys. Sorry if I mislead you, just over caution on my part. Once a bike is offered as salvage, in my opinion, about all you should do with them is part them out.

I looked thru' all the manuals etc and eventually found in the workshop manual it says the ECU is a Magneti Marelli IAW 5 AM.

If the price is right I will buy the bike to put it back on the road, not break it for spares. I intend to buy the 'comfort' seat for it for the benefit of my girlfriend and use it for 2 up trips and as a winter hack.

It really looks too good to sell as spares and there are so few Bellagios out there that the demand for second hand parts is probably limited.

The damage is mostly cosmetic and typical for someone who stole it by breaking the steering lock with brute force...the h/bars are bent, the steering stop on the frame is bent, one of the steering stops on the bottom yoke is chipped and there's a dent in the tank. I can happily live with the dent if the price is right and everything else is easily fixable.

The only technical damage to make me cautious is the ignition switch & key code thing, but my local bike shop has a specialist trade contact who sorts out systems when the codes & keys are lost for around £250 if I can't do it myself with the old key & code and a new lock & key set that the vendor is giving away with the bike.

As I said, it's all down to the price. If it's not a bargain I'm walking away.

The e-bay special,The last one of these cat d went for 2500 and it was worse than this.
So i hope your going to bid a bit more.
The vendor says he has keys and a lock. These are standard Apprilla items anyway.

Time will tell. I know pretty much what it will cost to fix and what I'm prepared to pay for another (4th) Guzzi in my shed. If it's too much money I'm afraid my girlfriend will just have to put up with the Griso pillion seat a bit longer until something else comes along. I already have my eye on a couple of suitable Brevas.
