Griso 8V Rear Rack Problem

Picked up the rear rack for the Griso today and slavishly followed the instructions including the removal of the tail section and drilling the 2x20mm holes only to find after the re assembly that the rack will not fit! The drilled holes are in the right spot because they're pre marked underneath the tail section and the side mounting points are already on the bike??

The only possible explanation i've got is that the rack for the 1100 is different to the rack for the 8V. The mounting instructions which came with the rack are marked MG Griso 1100 and mine is an 8V but I can't believe the tail section is that different and that the factory racks are different for the 2 models?

Does anyone have any pointers or better still pictures of the factory rack in place showing the mounting points clearly?

Thanks All :x

Weird - the 1100 and 1200 shouldn't be different in that respect...
Is there a part # on the instructions that came with your rack?
Guzzi lists the rack for the 1200 as GU06677200.

What part of it doesn't fit? Do the holes you drilled in the tail section line up to the frame bolt mounts? Do the side holes in the stainless mesh line up with the frame bolt mounts?

Thank You,

Mark

I really shouldn't embarrass myself like i'm about to on a public forum but here goes. I drilled the holes to the size of the fixing bolts not the rack fixing points - hadn't considered that the rack sunk into the rear section doh!

Just drilled them out again with an 18mm wood bit and perfect!

I think the 21mm recommendation would be too big though, 18mm is a nice fit.

Thanks for the replies.

:D

Found that the stock bolts on the tail section mounts will eventually rust since there are no drain holes in the cylinder they sit in and they spend a lot of time full of water after rain or washing. Worth switching over to stainless steel bolts when you get a chance. Have had no problems with the side mount bolts and did not replace them.
