The cover for the instrument cluster on my Griso was broken off, but the electronics work perfectly. Before I put the replacement cover on, can anyone tell me what this plug is for? I've searched and found no place it could possibly plug into. It appears to have a pink and brown wire. I ran through all the functions in the cluster, every button on the bars, no problems everything works. Could this be just for diagnostics?

I think that is the plug for the Air Temperature Sensor.

I guess the temperature reading isn't correct, but you haven't noticed.

Regards,
David

David is right.

That's Rosa and Marrone (Pink & Brown), connector to the air temperature sensor located at the front of the instrument cluster. (circled in red, if I recall correctly)

Cheers,
Phang

Thanks for the help guys. OK I give up, no sensor anywhere I suspect it was attached to the broken piece. Doubt the replacement cover will contain it. Or am I just blind?

Hi grisogreg,

Item [11] is the Air Temperature Sensor. It is mounted to the instrument cluster bracket [4] which is obviously missing in your photos

Well done Phang. More stuff to order. Last dumb question (for this thread at least): Is this temp sensor just to provide me an ambient temperature on the dash board or does it (also) relay info to the ecu to adjust air/fuel ratio etc? In other words is it a must-replace thing or can I get by?

A quick answer: The [ambient] air temperature sensor in the instrument cluster is solely for temperature display on the instrument screen.

The [intake] air temperature sensor that feed the ECU is located on the cover of the air box under the seat.

Cheers,
Phang

Again, thanks for the clarification. Just ran to the garage pulled the seat and that intake air sensor is there like it should be...but alas, just noticed another plug that seems to be looking for a mate. Could I trouble to you identify this straggler

There you go :)

Both plugs are not connecting to anything during normal use, just keep them next to the fuse box.

Thanks for your patience. Sooner or later I'll get to know this machine. I've only owned it for a few days and haven't even ridden it yet! My parts arrive soon and I hope to have my first ride this weekend

That is not connected usually and is called the dashboard diagnostic as per the attachment. The one next to it is for resetting the TPS and mucking with fuel maps etc.
