Hi

My 2009 Stelvio leans over far to much in my opinion when on the Side Stand.

Is there a cure for this, I've noticed newer versions stand a lot more upright, do the newer Side Stands fit a 2009 Bike.

Any help would be well received as it is difficult to stand the Bike up when sat on it with a full tank of fuel.

Thanks

Hi and welcome

It will pay to do a "search" on the forum for anyone posting something up with this issue?

I also recall there was some thng printed in the MG club GB magazine " GAMBALUNGA" June -July issue on the last page.

It says when on centre stand the sidestand should be about 10 cm from the ground when extended out? The guy in the mag's was about 18 cm!

His problem was the lug on the sub-frame had bent- not the stand.
In the end he lengthened the side stand.

Also I wouldn't recommend sitting on the side stand with a full or even low level fuel in tank. Use the centre stand only for this!

Hope this may help.

Does your bike have any warranty from a dealer ?

Just for your information the bending side stand mounting plate on the sub frame was recognized as an issue by MG as they did do a recall for some 2008/9 bikes and the side stand mounting was replaced. You could check with the dealer as you should be able to get the recall done.

Just one of those things you have to keep an eye on.

Thanks for that Guys, dont think mine is bent as there is a strengthening strut welded vertically on the mount .... have done a bit more research and from drawings it may be that I have the US mount with an early UK Side Stand ... this may be the problem

But the distance is about 18cm when the Bike is on the Centre Stand !!!

My 2009 model Stelvio had the same problem. The dealer said it was the wrong side stand. It was changed at the first service under warranty.

While on the subject of the side stand....My '12 NTX should have the most up to date side stand (since the bike is only 2 weeks old!). Much to my surprise, I found that if I park the bike on a down hill slope...with the bike in the down hill direction...there is nothing to stop the bike from rolling forward and thus falling over. I caught this happening twice over the course of my recent long trip. Luckily I caught the bike before it got too far over, but just barely!

I always leave my bike in gear whenever I use the side stand.

Hi Guys

An update on my original post ... eventually after a month or two I got Moto Guzzi to agree to change both the Side Stand and the Centre Stand (not sure why the Centre Stand needed changing but the insisted) .. it then took another couple of months for the parts to be delivered ... must thank Blade at Swindon (UK) for all their help and fitting the new bits .... Bike now stands how it should on the Side Stand :) .... oh and it was all down as a recall .... so cost me nothing :)

Glad you got it fixed in the end eventhough it took MG a long time (as usual it seems)! :)
