V50 weird clutch issue

My 1980 V50 has had a strange clutch problem as long as I've had it. Whenever the clutch was pulled in at idle, the engine speed would drop by about 100 RPM.
I have recently put the bike back together after a light rebuild in which I split the cases for re-sealing and new rod bushings, replaced the shifter forks, all bearings and seals in the gearbox, and replaced the clutch friction plate.

Ever since then, the engine always dies completely when any pressure at all is applied to the lever, and will only stay running if I slightly crack the throttle. (idle speed is set to 1200). I currently have both cylinders off because I decided to have them re-plated, and I cannot turn the crankshaft by hand when pressure is applied to the clutch lever.

Does anyone here have any insight as to what this could be? I'm quite flummoxed :?
Thanks,
Kevin

Did you include the clutch rod throwout bearing (at the back of the transmission) in your bearing replacements?

The throwout bearing 'looks' to be in excellent shape, so I have not replaced it. Whats confusing me is the fact that this only started being a real problem after the rebuild even though everything related to clutch control is the same as it was. That bearing was not very expensive, so I went ahead and ordered one just to see what will happen. In the mean time I'll be riding out to the Indy GP on a borrowed 250 Ninja. :cheer:
Thanks!

I just got the topend put back together, swapped out the throwout bearing, and went for a test ride. The problem is definately still there, but I did notice that it only happens when the bike is hot, and not at all when I first start it up from cold. The only other thing I can think of is that it might have something to do with the crankshaft. When I had the cases split a while back though, the end-play spacers were in good shape, so I just put them back how I found them whenever I re-assembled the engine. The crankshaft does have a small amount of end play just like it had before. I've turned the idle up to 1500 for now just to make it liveable.

The problem has gone away. After 5 - 600 miles of riding in the last few weeks, it has slowly gotten better now idles fine with the clutch in. Strange - maybe it was just a running issue all along.
